Where to eat Austrian food in Passau: The Best Restaurants and Bars

Reviews on Austrian food in Passau, Bavaria, Germany. Known as Dreiflüssestadt (City of Three Rivers), Passau is the place where the Danube meets the Inn and the Ilz. The picturesque city lies in Germany’s far southeast corner near the Austrian border. Settled since prehistory and a former hub of the salt trade, it became the Roman village of Batavis, then later the Holy Roman Empire’s largest diocese and a sword-making center. Saint Stephan’s Cathedral, home of the world’s second-largest cathedral organ, is one of Passau’s favorite attractions.

The history of the house and the historic wood panelled rooms make eating here a special experience. The quality of the food is excellent, the service OK.

The food was really great, the beer average, service good. The location of the toilets is a bit awkward, and it was also a bit cold at the tables near the entrance hall, and of course in the hall itself.

This is one of the best restaurants in Passau that I’ve visited during my two weeks stay in Passau. The steak and tartare are super! The place is also super modern inside! Worth to visit it!

Restaurant Weisser Hase

In 1512 the Weisser Hase Inn opened in Passau - in the same premises which we occupy nowadays. As few people could read or write, it was common to use animals on signs - Weisser Hase means 'white hare'. Some of these animal names survived into the 21st ce

Tried this restaurant for dinner while staying at the hotel and were pleased enough to return a couple of days later. This particular part of Passau is rather short on places to have a 'proper' evening meal so it's good to know you can dine well here till quite late and at a very reasonable price.Traditional-style menu. There was wonderful roast pork, very tender and flavoursome, super schnitzels, and all the vegetable accompaniments.were very well prepared. Lovely potatoes too. However, I would avoid the Austrian house red (served by the glass) and try something else.Excellent service. Happy to recommend.
