Discover Restaurants offering the best Asian food in Savannakhet, Savannakhet Province, Laos. Savannakhet, officially named Kaysone Phomvihane (Lao: ໄກສອນ ພົມວິຫານ; Thai: ไกสอน พมวิหาน) and previously known as Khanthabouli (ຄັນທະບູລີ), is a city in western Laos and the capital of the Savannakhet Province. With a population of 120,000 (undated), it is the second-largest city in Laos, after Vientiane. The city is the birthplace of Kaysone Phomvihane, the first leader of Laos from independence in 1975 to 1992, and was named after him in 2005. Although the old French colonial quarter of the town, along the Mekong River-front, is depressed and crumbling, the town's proximity to Thailand's booming economy has brought about new commercial development in the northern part of the town, near both the river crossing and the bus terminal.

Korean Restaurant MIGA is located in Savannakhet, Lao.(the Central Lao) We hope that you become Healthier and Happier with Korean Foods[Hansik].
Absolutely excellent Korean BBQ in a nice building on the Southeast edge of downtown. Very good food, service, drinks, and a pleasant clean air-conditioned atmosphere. Pretty far to walk so you need a car, motorbike, or bicycle if staying in the main tourist area or old colonial area. They have a FaceBook page with more information. I had Bibimbap and it was excellent with hot rice, kimchee, pickles, and all the lettuce, herbs, and trimmings - which were attentively refilled. Ice cold beer Lao to wash it down. They had lots of other drinks and Korean beer and whiskey as well as all of the way up to well aged Suntory and Johnny Walker Blue. I think I paid about 150,000 Kip for the meal which is expensive but was worth it to me as it was breakfast, lunch and half way to dinner.

I chose an egg sandwich, based on the pics in the menu - the sandwiches looked good and authentic, two thin slices of bread with various fillings. When she came to take my order the first thing the woman said rudely was 'why take out of book?!', meaning two pages that had been removed from their plastic covers when I got the menu. I would have left then but had already started my beer so ordered the egg sandwich. It was two partly fried eggs plonked on top of a pile of lettuce leaves, with a crust of bread under and another on top. Nothing like the sandwiches in the pics, nothing like a sandwich!
The menu gives you lots of choice, but after we ordered spring rolls they came to tell us they didn't have spring rolls. We ordered fried rice with chicken and it was simple. Very few vegetables in the rice. Staff speaks very little English and the restaurant doesn't have much atmosphere.
As you pass by the lake on the way to and back from the stupa That Ing Hang, you will see several waterfront beer halls/restaurants. This restaurant is the last one you would see if you drive/ride from Savannakhet town (or the first one if you come from the stupa). We chose this restaurant among other competitors as the conditions looked better and it looked popular among locals. We liked the ambience very much. We sat on the floor (pillows available) of the waterfront area and enjoyed the view. Each group gets a hut (look like a sunbed) and I found it romantic. We were very pleased to have stopped at this place on the way back to town. We had drinks and a bag of crisps only but they seem to offer a variety of local food. If you are visiting the stupa, we highly recommend you to stop at this place for a drink.
Lao house restaurant so proud to presents most of Laos food as well as some Thai food and Vietnam. Moreover, we have Lao coffee which is popular in this country.
It is next to the Lao House. Disappointed with the service and food. Do not food which we wanted even when it is in the menu. Seems that they were not interested in serving us more when we ordered a simple meal. Sorry for the delay in this reply. I'm a manager in this restaurant. we found the problem as you recommended already. So our service will be improved immediately. Please accept our deepest apologies. Waiting you for using our better service again.
The location is amazing, being the center of lovely square in town. The food is really autenthic and delicious, served in a traditional way, which means with soup and banana added to what your order. The prices are low and the lady is very nice and friendly.
This easily accessible restaurant is where the local establishment goes to eat good Lao food. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. It has live folk music, not too loud. The restaurant is clean. The service is good. The food is good. The atmosphere is very Southeast Asia.

The restaurant area sits on the edge of the lake and that adds ambiance and, of course, photo opportunities. The waitress was friendly and desperate to take a selfie with our daughter! The food was really good value and served reasonably promptly. We had a couple of local dishes and some chips (fries). The chips were well cooked and had a dusting of curry powder of some kind: you don't get that everywhere.Downside? Dogs! They wandered in and weren't really a bother but I don't like dogs in a restaurant. They can fight over food and that's both unpleasant and potentially dangerous.Really good value for money, though, without doubt.

Lin Cafe has relocated 150 m to the east, facing the Talat Yen Plaza or Night Market.
Every time I visit Savannakhet I pretty much only eat here. The laap spicy salad has been my favorite dish over the years but on this last visit it was just terrible. Chewey meat and no chili added made for a really bad dish served. Maybe theyâve changed their chef? Who knows?Something felt off.Itâs still an ok spot if you keep it simple with the breakfast/lunch menu but for the more elaborate dishes be aware it can be a lottery.Thank you for your comment. In fact, the level of spiciness differs from person to person. Please do not hesitate to tell us how hot you like. This is same for fish sauce.Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
