Things to do in Pyay
Our guide and driver dropped us at this Ayeyarwady River side restaurant for lunch to break up our sightseeing day around Pyay. From Pyay it's just down Strand Rd close to and with a view of the Nawaday Bridge. The views are pleasant, nothing spectacular. When we were there the sunflowers between the restaurant and river were in bloom which was an added bonus. The menu was quite varied and tourist priced. Mostly Chinese dishes. Nothing too memorable but just fine. I'm not sure I would go back but it is a safe bet for a decent meal in Pyay with a river view.
Medium sized quiet restaurant in a garden up a small lane off the main road with closed AC room and outdoor terraces. Good car park always useful.Large selection of tasty well presented dishes, a fair amount of fish (good eel also), mainly Chinese style. Staff very attentive, with no particular language barriers. A pleasant and restful place to stop for a very acceptable meal.
Grandma Cafe is located on the street where the night market is close to the river in Pyay. It's a small, pleasant restaurant with a few tables frequented by tourists and locals alike. The owner, so we understand, is a Burmese woman who worked in Malaysia and learned to cook Korean food. The fried chicken and fries portion was small but for the price you can order more - it was so tasty we came back the next night. Recommended for a change of taste from Burmese or Chinese in Pyay.

I liked the cheerful feel of the place the moment I walked in. I have always thought you can tell the quality of the place(and it doesn't have to be expensive) just by the way people are behaving. Talking and laughing as they have their meal usually means they are pleased with their food. Locals were enjoying a night out and clearly celebrating the very pleasant atmosphere. My group ordered a range of dishes Every plate was well received.. I had chicken cashews which was sensational. Its a pity the outdoor balcony space doesn't overlook the river but at least it was fresh and cool compared to inside. This is not the restaurant from Mawlamyine. Our restaurant name is 'Wish' and we are located in Pyay.
