SIAM Treasure Thai Cuisine

This little storefront restaurant is the real deal. It has been our family's go-to Thai place for years. It is family-owned and they are welcoming to whomever walks through the door, whether you are a regular or a first timer. With less than 10 tables, it is small. The decor is very simple, but you are there for the great food. So, who cares. They do a vast majority of their sales in takeout, it seems. It is a BYOB, but I love their teas and Thai iced coffee. One of my colleagues at work is a native of Thailand and swears by this place. This and you often see Thai families seated at the "long table" in the restaurant. The menu is a combination of Thai and Chinese dishes. They are all about catering to the neighborhood. That's the reason for the Chinese, I think. They also keep the dishes quite mild, compared to a native Thai person's taste. However, I regularly order mine "Thai hot." I love it. It's not for the uninitiated. You have to convince them that's how you really like it however. The staff really want you to have a good experience and are reluctant to make it too hot. None of us in our family have had anything we don't like. From the Tom Yum or Tom Kha soups, to Chicken Satay, to the noodle or rice centric entrees. It's hard to go wrong. My daughter's favorite is Pad Thai. My favorite is the "Crazy Noodles, Thai hot." For a change, I think the Chicken with Basil is great, too. It's a small neighborhood spot in a small strip mall at Touhy and Harlem, but it's as good as you can get in the Chicagoland area. Really.

This was our first visit to Amitabul, a Korean vegan restaurant. Amitabul is a Korean Buddhist saying meaning "The Awakening." The environment is lively yet in a nice happy way. The walls are loaded with Buddhist art and sayings. Our table had a prayer for our meal, which was a nice touch. The food has a Korean touch and was delicious. Of course, the food is purely vegan. There is not even honey as a sweetener since that, too, is a animal product of the wonderful bees. I had the Kimchi Tofu Stir Noodle and chose rice noodles over whole wheat. It was quite spicy but not heavy on garlic as is most kimchi. The veggies were cooked properly, and the dish was excellent. A friend had the Super Shitake Wonder Noodle Soup, which while he thought was of superior quality, it lacked a lot of flavor. Another friend ordered 12 Mandoo Vegan Dumplings. I had one, and it was superb, especially with the addition of a light plum sauce. Service was very good although a bit unpredictable. All in all, though, it was a great experience. Amitabul is the best vegetarian restaurant I've ever eaten in. It's open Tuesday to Saturday 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm.

Highly recommended this little gem of a place. Had beef bulgogi and beef bibimbop, both are excellent, fresh prepared, and very reasonably priced. First time here, but it won't be the last. Small seating area, seats maybe 25 people, staff is very attentive and friendly.

Canton Tea Gardens

It's small, it's "hole in the wall" charming and old (since the early 50's) but boy oh boy is it ever good. Super value, super filling dinner and lunch specials. They have the best chicken chow mien, the best crab rangoon and the best egg foo young of any place I've ever had Chinese. It's not stylish or fancy at all, so don't go for atmosphere. You go for the food and you won't be disappointed!

My husband and I are “regulars” at Shakou because of the high quality sushi and excellent, friendly service from each and every server. Cocktails are generous and delicious - great saki selections! Appetizers are big enough to share. Love the ahi tartar and sea star! We stick to the sushi rolls, but other dishes look amazing as well. You know a good sushi roll when it is generously filled with very fresh fish and seafood and not made up of mostly rice - that is exactly what you get at Shakou. The Signature rolls are outstanding! Some of our favorites include Niku Niku (steak instead of seafood - really good!), Urban Heat, and Volcano roll. Save room for tasty desserts as well!Thank you for the 5 Star Review and sharing your #ShakouExperience! #ExperienceShakou

Blufish Sushi Bistro

Our favorite place for sushi. I enjoy the atmosphere - comfortable and lively, but not so loud that you can’t carry a conversation. Food is consistently good but on more than one occasion, when the restaurant is busier, the service has been below average. Servers are always friendly but it seems as though they can’t keep up with the traffic. Most recently, we were seated for more than five minutes before our server introduced herself. Drinks took too long to show up and we had to flag her down for another round. Same deal trying to get and then pay the bill. She did the best she could (and with a smile) but poor service has been the rule lately rather than the exception.
