Things to do in Oakdale

It's located in an unassuming strip mall on the western side of Oakdale next to the Stanislaus river. It's next to a card room and a fitness center. Not that impressive from the outside. The interior is clean with more tables then one might expect. The food is the star here. My son had the orange chicken of course. He pronouncedit excellent. We had spring rolls with a dipping sauce that was very good. I ordered Pho with medium rare steak slices, number 18, I believe it was excellent. Reminded me of the Vietnamese food I have had in Seattle. As the menu says, good any time of year. With the weather turning cooler it is perfect. Next time I'll try a different dish to compare. Not really sureif there are 38 entries but their could be that many. There are plenty!I would recommend Pho 38! We will be back.

Service first off all is incredible! Very friendly staff that provide you with great service in a timely fashion. The restaurant itself is hidden towards the corner of the strip mall. Fairly clean interior overall for an older building. The food: We ordered the shrimp, scallop and chicken soup , fried prawns, spring rolls, string bean with chicken, honey walnut shrimp, ginger scallion fish and finally some shrimp fried rice. The shrimp dishes get a 3 for the most part because the shrimp was a bit off for my taste buds and had a fishy smell, not sure if it was older or frozen for too long especially in the soup (I left shrimp and scallop in the soup and ate the veggies). There was also too much of the rice added so it absorbed quite a bit of the broth which I wanted more of. Similar for the fried prawns from the appetizer. The spring rolls were quite good, the roll itself was crispy and the veg inside nicely cooked. The string beans and chicken was particularly good - lots of green beans cooked to perfection and just the right amount of chicken cut to what I think was the perfect size. My fellow diner didn't want to eat the fish because the server was only able to identify it as white fish - I just wanted to make sure it wasn't tilapia and she did say it wasn't so I went ahead and ordered it. It did have a nice ginger and scallion scent and the fish itself was cooked well. The honey walnut prawns I've had better but there wasn't anything particularly wrong with this one.The portions here are rather large so that was a plus because I had lots of left overs to share.
I have eaten here a couple of times and each time the food is so good. The Tempura is very good.. They have a large variety of things on the menu it is hard to decide what to order. Very friendly servers.

Surprised to find 2 chinese restaurants on the same street in Oakdale. The restaurant offered different budget range for their dinner set and cheapest start from $8.50/pax. We settled for this which has a plate of fried rice, chow mein, soup of the day, fried shrimps and sweet and sour pork. The servings were just nice for 2 persons. The sweet and sour pork is surprisingly tasty. Overall, not a bad place for chinese food in a small town.
My wife loves their Chinese Salad! We may go to other Chinese restaurants once in a while, but she always takes us Bach for the chicken salad. It is one of our favorite dishes ever.
