Toro Sushi Bar

I went here today for lunch and was vey surprised at the quality and quantity of sushi and sashimi they served me at a moderate price. This restaurant is tucked up an alley in Upper Montclair, but my gps took me right there with no trouble. Both the sushi and sashimi were very fresh--an absolute necessity--and quickly served. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area and like Japanese food.

I come here for a lunch at least 2-3 times a month, often even weekly. Love the super delicious food and the very friendly owners who are happy to accommodate if you need to adjust your order. For example, the first time I tried the Kimchi soup, I found it way too spicy for me, so they took it back and added something that made it much less spicy. I now order it mild from the start and also ask for the regular not hot stone bowl, so it doesn't take forever to cool off :).Besides the kimchi soup, I usually order a chapchae (sweet potato noodles with pork) or jaeyuk dupbap (spicy pork with rice). Portions are large, and I'm a light water, so I end up taking half home for another lunch the next day. Wonderful place!

The Noble East

We have been looking for an upscale, gourmet Chinese restaurant for so long - ever since KoShing closed down many years ago. Finding The Noble East was such a relief! The decor is so cool, reservations were easy to make and the environment is comfortable and still a little swanky. It’s very clear that the food is authentic even if most of it is ‘American’ chinese food. We tried 3 apps - vegetable dumplings, scallion pancakes and an egg roll. All were good but I would try different options next time for sure. The pancakes were over fried and lacked real scallion flavor. For our entrees we chose eggplant/tofu in garlic sauce, dehydrated string beans and a seafood platter. The food was incredible - especially the string beans. They were perfection. Crunchy, not overly oiled up and flavorful. Same goes for the eggplant (well cooked and tasty) and the seafood entree (my mother cleaned her plate). Apart from the great food, we enjoyed some of special aspects that are often missing from other Chinese restaurants. They serve crunchy noodles with duck sauce and hot mustard at the start of the meal and you can order hot tea as well. And between courses the server brings hot towels for your hands which is something we hadn’t been treated to in a long time. Service is fine - nothing special but not bad! Can’t wait to return and also order takeout! Also - they have an amazing selection of ginger ale/beer of various flavors. I recommend the passion fruit. It’s also BYOB.

Had a very nice meal. There were three of us. The food was reasonably priced, and the portions were plentiful -- we left with doggie bags. The sampler appetizer was good. There were two pieces of several items. The wonton soup was okay. Lots of wontons. The "drunken noodles" were tasty and filling. I had the roast duck in red curry. Excellent. The duck was very tender. We also had the pineapple fried rice. It was okay, but I've had better. Service was good. Overall, a good meal and we will be back. It is BYOB which always is nice.

I was happy to see a menu with a good number of delicious options. My date and I had a scallop dish and salmon. Both were great. The restaurant is a nice size, especially for its location. The waitstaff were friendly. The food was cooked and seasoned well.

Food is excellent -- particularly the sushi/sashimi, but also the appetizers and kitchen entrees. Everything is tasty and beautifully presented. My one major gripe is the slow service; it shouldn't take a half-hour to get 2 appetizers out on a Sunday night with only 3 tables occupied -- and then another half-hour to get two entrees out. I note similar complaints over an extended period, so this has been a consistent problem that they should work on. One minor gripe is the uncomfortable seating in the booths, which have straight 90-degree backs, like church pews. Next time we'll request a table with regular chairs. So the food itself is delicious, but I hope you're not in a hurry, or really hungry.

A relatively small place with fantastic food. Went there for a friend's birthday, everything that we ordered was top-notch. Appetizer plates are suitable for sharing (probably for 3 people) and the chive pancake was a highlight. It's BYOB but there is a liquor store literally next door. Tip: ask how spicy a dish is because some of our dishes were quite spicy. I'm not sure whether they can alter the spice level but they will definitely give you all the information to make an informed decision

We drove to our regular place and found it was closed for good, so we searched and went to Dai-Kichi for the first time based on its online reviews, and we were VERY happy we did. Food was excellent - we had the seaweed salad and sushi-sashimi deluxe for 2 - and the service was outstanding. We had a choice of different sakes; my wife had a hot sake and I had a cold one, and we were both impressed with the quality. The location is right across from a Montclair train station, and also near a local movie theatre. Highly recommended!

If you walk too quickly along Bloomfield Ave you might miss this cute but tiny restaurant serving a limited but delicious menu based around Ramen noodles. Main courses include about 6 dishes but you can add additional items such as marinated bamboo (recommended) to your bowl. Seating is limited to only about 8 tables but there is a long "communal" table if you don't mind being a little cramped and some tall chairs along the front window as well. Be aware this place is already very popular and on a Thursday night at 5:15pm we got a table fairly quickly. As we were leaving around 6:00pm every table was taken and there was a line out the door about 12 deep. The pork buns (@ $7.00)were tasty and Ajitama (dumplings) extremely good. The Ani Ramen dishes were filling without heaviness.Servers were all accommodating even as they had to rub shoulders with the clientele coming in and leaving. No alcohol and no doggie bags.A good place to chow down
