Things to do in Milton

It pains me to write this review but it must be done. We have experienced unacceptable service. Until tonight, Oshima was our family's choice for sushi in Milton. The food has always been good, and they offer delivery. Today we placed an order at 4:45pm, looking to give our small children a delicious sushi dinner on a school night. The order did not arrive until 6:30. We waited nearly TWO HOURS for our order -- there was no traffic in town, the weather was fine. When we mentioned (very politely) to the delivery driver that we had waited more than 100 minutes, we were met with zero sympathy. We phoned the restaurant to inform them how long we waited, and were offered no apologies. When we said this was unacceptable we were told that they were busy. We will NOT order from Oshima again.

We've been ordering regularly from this establishment for over 10 years. I have found the female owner very friendly but her husband and especially her children (who are at the front counter) extremely unfriendly, bordering on arrogance. Oddly enough, prior to ordering this evening I read the online reviews on Yelp, which are very negative. I called, gave my order with specific instructions on one item to the son of the owners. I picked up my order and brought it home only to find that one item was wrong and the instructions that I gave on the other item was completely ignored, in fact, it wasn't even written on the order receipt. I called to complain. Told the non-family person who answered the phone the problem. He put me hold. The son now comes on the phone and I asked him if the previous person explained to him my complaint. He replied "no" so I explained it yet again, this time to him. He proceeds to put me on hold. Now the owner, his father, comes on the line and says, "Hello. What's the problem?" I said, "did no one explain to him what my issue is and now I have to explain it for the third time?" He said "no" and I hung up. Honestly, as long time business owners, you'd think they'd have their customer service perfected by now.

Let me start off first by saying that âHakka Foodâ (at least in the GTA) is not really Chinese food. It is Indian styled Chinese food where traditional Chinese dishes and cooking techniques have been fused with garam masala, curry and other Indian spices to create an entirely unique and different menu, complete with a whole host of entirely different tastes and textures. To suggest that Hakka IS Chinese food and that they are one in the same would be the same thing as saying the sour cream laden and melted cheddar cheese smothered Tex-Mex dishes that have become part of the North American palate is the same as true, authentic Mexican food. They are not the same thing. After perusing the various restos listed on Trip Advisor, we settled on Royal Garden because we had never tried it before and most of the reviews were favourable. I was cynical though as it is listed as the #1 âAsianâ food cuisine place in Milton! Not saying much when your competition for âAsian Foodâ is Mr. Dumpling, Empire Wok and Lucky Star. The food scene in Milton is fairly vanilla and appeases the tastes of the community it serves. Chinese Food in Milton is basically breaded chicken balls with that neon red sauce or sweet and sour pork doused in a sticky lemon sauce that is more commonplace in your mall food court and would not be found on the plate of any self respecting Asian person ever. We ordered six dishes: Crispy Sesame Beef ($15.99), Deep Fried Spicy Squid ($12.99), deluxe Cantonese Chow Mein ($13.99), the House Fried Rice ($10.60), the Chilly Chicken ($12.99) and the Prawns in Lobster Sauce ($13.49). All said and done, after tax, the bill came out to almost $90 and we picked it up. When we made the order on the phone they said it would be ready in 25-30 minutes. When we arrived half an hour later to pick up our order, the food was ready, in spite of what other posters have written about long wait times. Staff was courteous and polite and we had no issues getting our food and paying for our meal. The staff and majority of patrons were all Indo-Canadian, which usually speaks to the authenticity of a restaurant that boasts Hakka cuisine as the core of their menu options. Not one Asian person working the kitchen or seated in the restaurant. As far as Chinese take out standards go with regards to price, this $90 bill is definitely on the more expensive side. When we got our food home, my first observation was that the portions were massive. Once we dug in, the difference between traditional Chinese food and Hakka became abundantly clear with our first couple of bites. Although it looked similar to Chinese food, it was not. It looked kind of Chinese, but definitely tasted Indian. Hakka has a reputation for being a very hot and spicy cuisine. While not all the dishes are spicy, one cannot deny that the Hakka palate is characterized by some definite heat. My kids (ages 5 and 7) who normally gobble up Chinese like it was the last supper, had some trouble eating a lot of the things we ordered. The dishes were also far too saucy and almost overpowering with the amount of cornstarch or thickener they used. An hour later, once most of the dishes had cooled, there was a thick, gelatinous blob smothering most of the food. The Cantonese noodles were dry and the toppings seemed anemic and old and were NOT Cantonese noodles with an Indian twist. They just werenât very good. The squid seemed to be saturated in oil and had an unsightly, unappetizing greyish colour to it. The only thing we really liked was the crispy sesame beef. Most of the dishes ended up all tasting the same: hot. While I wasnât angry with our order, I really canât see myself ordering from here again. Lots of leftovers and not necessarily because the portions were so huge. There are far better Hakka restaurants, just not in Milton. This is not Chinese food, so I canât really make a comparison. If you truly have a hankering for truly authentic Hakka or Chinese, drive the 15 minutes to Mississauga and find somewhere there to eat it. Sadly, Miltonâs depressing ethnic food options remain limited and the Royal Garden certainly is not a glowing representation of how good Hakka cuisine can be.

A family owned restaurant that has taken over the spot of a previous Mediterranean restaurant. My visit was for a business function in the upstairs area that had been arranged by the previous owners as a room for functions. The food was typical for standard Japanese-Korean fare. There was nothing special about the noodle dishes or the basic assortment of sushi for the business event. However, service was very pleasant and attentive. Hopefully, I will get a chance in the neat future to visit them on their main dining room for their regular service.

We called and ordered the 76-pc. sushi and sashimi party tray and a couple of teriyaki shrimp appetizers for dinner. We picked up the order after a few minutes. I must say that the variety of sushi and sashimi was good and everything was fresh. My kids and grandkids beat me to the shrimp tempura and I got the veggies instead. But that was fine since they were also good.

We went for my daughter's birthday and she is vegan. We decided to order the meal for 4. It came with soup, a platter of fish and a platter of sushi and oranges for dessert. We had leftovers. My daughter ordered separate and had a very good selection. The presentation of food was top notch. For 5 of us, the bill was just over 150. We did not have alcohol. It is a small building, so tables are close together. Service was good. Thank you,

Decided to check out Thai House Cuisine on Fatherâs Day at around 530pm. We didnât have reservations but were able to walk in and got seated immediately at a great table by the window overlooking the street. The restaurant had several tables occupied but service was prompt and attentive. We were greeted warmly by who I am assuming was the owner, who welcomed us in and directed us to one of the open tables. He came by shortly after we seated ourselves with menus and returned again to take our order. For the kids we ordered a Mango Juice and Lychee Juice (almost $4 each?!?) and went ahead and ordered our meal - deep fried calamari and a mango salad to start, crispy tamarind beef, ginger chicken and a regular pad Thai along with 2 orders of coconut rice. The food came out quickly and was very tasty, particularly the mango salad and calamari. Portions were decently sized and we even brought home some leftovers. Final bill came out to over $100 with tax and tip. Definitely not cheap but I will say for Milton, the restaurant is pretty authentic and rivals the same flavours and tastes you might get downtown or at established and well known Thai restaurants like Sukho Thai or Khao San Road. Milton is not exactly known for its international food scene or its diverse food offerings. Most ethnic food spots have a tendency to be watered down and âCanadianizedâ to appease the palates of most Miltonians. As the demographics of the growing city continues to change, so too does its restaurant life. The restaurant itself is located in a prime location right on the downtown strip. If you cannot find parking directly on the street, there is plenty of parking around the back on both the north and south side of Main Street. The restaurant also has a patio with seating outside. Will definitely come back and try some menu offerings that are not your top 40 dishes like the ones we ordered. Restaurant is clean and tidy but the bathrooms date the age of the building and are a little run down and could be refreshed. Overall, a decent dining experience.

Though I donât live in Milton, we always visit or take out food from Toss Thai when visiting our nephewâs family. The food selection is terrific and very tasty. Service is always fast whether you are eating in or ordering out. Itâs the best Thai restaurant in Milton and the food is always very good.

I love pho and just discovered how flavourful and filling the egg noodle soup with wonton and barbecued pork is. I was in Milton recently and had another craving for this soup and tried it at Pho Milton. This is a good-sized restaurant and service is quick. The soup was okay, not as good as the one I had at Brantford. The bowl itself was funky, with a lower front and a higher back which I think resulted in a smaller soup serving.

First time Iâve ever been here and I left very happy with no complaints! The food was amazing the waitress was very friendly and the decor was inviting. Would definitely recommend if you like authentic Thai food, it will not disappoint! A hidden gem!
