The city, built on reclaimed land, was founded in 1967 and was named after Cornelis Lely, who engineered the Afsluitdijk, making the reclamation possible. Lelystad is approximately 3 metres (9.8 feet) below sea level.

If you visit Lelystad and if you like Asian food, please try this family restaurant. The staff is extremely friendly (led by the owners him and her self), the food (Buffet, grill and wok) is quality and divers. For children there are special dishes (french fries, sausages etc). The only trouble you may expect is the choice. There is just so much. Fish, clamps, meat, rice, noodles, name it and its there. The dessert buffet is a must. fresh fruits, ice cream, whipped cream and many dips (like chocolate, strawberry, nuts etc) The ambiance is typical European/Chinees. But from a restaurant perspective, this one offers a lot more than the average shopping center (Chinese restaurant). Child friendly, smoking area inside and clean toiletsJust try it. The restaurant is in front of the only Hotel in Lelystad and close to the Agora theater.

People still come here for the a-la-carte Chinese meals, which are still some of the best in town.A large part of the place has been turned into a world buffet style restaurant. You can get burgers, tepanyaki, chines, fries, stir fry and sushi in this place. Due to the large variety, this causes some things to be blow par. My advise, stay with the Chinese, grill tepanyaki or stir fry. There is a special corner for the kids to play, it's large with a lot of toys but not well placed. There is no way for parents to overview their kids from their seats.

All you can eat for a very competitive prize. They follow the same concept as others, limited time, 2,5 hour, order max 5 items per round, eat all you order before ordering more and pay extra for things you don't finish. There are some weird sushis on the list (with corn or chees) that I would not recommend but the classics are tasty, and they have hot dishes too.

During my last trip in the Netherlands I accidentally came across this restaurant.We were 2 families with children (a company of 10) and it was late afternoon - we stopped there for a late lunch\early dinner (we practically skipped lunch on that day so we were quite hungry and the children were restless).The restaurant is spacious so we were seated very comfortably in a long and private table.For just about 10 Euro, each person could order 6 rounds of 5 dishes of sushi and other Japanese dishes (beef and chicken brochettes, fried dishes etc.) - everything was really fresh well prepared,We couldn't finish all the food as much as we wanted to try everything :-)The atmosphere in the restaurant is very quite and the waiters were nice and helpful.So, if you stay in or just pass through Lelystad, this is a great place to eat!
