This restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff but because we had the best ramen in Gion, we didn't think this was good enough. There was a queue before we got a seat in the restaurant.

We found this restaurant as they were spruiking it in the mall which we frequented so we promised to go. The service was very lackadaisical and inefficient but it might just have been that particular waiter, there were only a couple of tables so it wasn't busy. Our Sri Lankan curry (as opposed to England curry or Japan curry!!!) was very coconutty and whilst not unpleasant, it was pretty ordinary. The 'traditional salad' was a giant tower of shredded cabbage and was good value at ¥500. We had a much better Indian curry in Nagasaki!

We found this restaurant on our most recent trip to Kumamoto when we were walking around the area near our hotel. We always stay in the Maruko, just around the corner, so this is most convenient and a most welcome find. The place was packed when we first discovered it and we couldnât get seats. We went back the next day in the afternoon to make a reservation and did so again the following day because it was so good. The menu has so many wonderful choices that we could eat here for more than a week and not exhaust all the items we would like to try.Reservations recommended.

For this very popular restaurant, make sure you make reservations for dinner during high season. Located right next to the Shimotori Shopping arcade just past the Daiei store, this restaurant may have been reviewed by Zagats. Private tatami rooms available for small groups with wells for you to hang your legs. Food is a little pricey, but presentation is very Japanese and tasty. Menu items include tempura, sashimi, sushi, Japanese wagyu beef steaks, basashi (horse sashimi), local speciality karashi renkon (lotus root stuffed with meat and mustard), yakitori (grilled chicken), ika (dancing squid live squid is sliced into sashimi pieces and retruns to the plate and the legs are still moving), to mention a few. The restaurant has excellent nihonshu (premium Japanese sake) such as Kubota senjyu and Hakkaisan ginjyo. Shochu included premium brand Kuro Kirishima and others from the Kyushu area.

Famous for its roasted garlic oil version. The large serving is big. Plenty of onions and bean sprout. Pretty filling and the soup is good. The roasted chasu thicker than most I tried (paper thin). A high quality ramen store. I was expected queue at 5.30pm but turn out to have vacancy.

This ramen will not be as thick as a Kurume tonkotsu type, but it will have more garlic than any other ramen you have seen around. Its tonkotrsu base is super user-friendly, medium to thin-bodied, crisp ingredients, with excellent soy-base sauce as an option. Noodle is thin and perfectly done, as so is the ramen tamago, sweet and just glorious. Too bad there's no gyoza servings. The place compensates for any fault one may find with the ramen: friendly service, the local accent and great heavy metal music! MENUS IN ENGLISH TOO!

Kumamoto ramen's favorite of new Kamamoto ramen which opened in 2012 Kumamoto-shi in the center of Kumamoto city! We offer dumplings and dishes at reasonable prices mainly around Kumamoto ramen with black marlin oil. Counter and table seats are available
Great tasting broth, generous portion of pork and friendly service. What more could you ask for if you are looking for a tasty, reasonably priced meal.

Anyone who tells you they can replicate the flawless, crispy breading of this tonkatsu is either ignorant or deceitful. Light crunch, perfect pork, fresh prawns. Grinding sesame to add to tonkatsu sauce is a nice touch too. Overall, a great meal. Service was great as well.
