B-One

Reviewed By Malarchy

B-One is a restaurant in Jayapura on the banks of the Pacific Ocean. It looks out onto a stunning expanse of water though the restaurant is not designed especially well for the external view. B-One serves traditional Indonesian food from Java and Sumatra as well as an extensive fish and seafood collection. It is just about possible to find something vegetarian.B-One is not especially attractive restaurant. It is a clean and friendly enough place but its decor leaves a bit to be desired. The look is more of a canteen with long tables and a somewhat plasticky blue style to the surroundings. The private room upstairs is a little nicer but is still not amazingly easy on the eyes. The service is fine if in need of clear direction. English is not really spoken here so Bahasa Indonesia is the better option. Of an evening it appears that this is a popular location for a spot of Indonesian karaoke. For those who are fans of that entertainment then this is presumably a good spot. For those who want to hear others speak then it can be somewhat deafening even in the room upstairs. The food is ok. Presumably fish and other seafood is the specialty. Nothing stood out as especially delicious. On the plus side B-One is a large enough place for a group to dine. It is relaxed and friendly. An ok place serving west Indonesian food plus fish.

My friend swore that Duta served the best seafood in town, but honestly I can't really tell the difference - other seafood restaurants in Jayapura serves high-quality & fresh seafood. The 'kerapu goreng bumbu rica-rica' tasted so good, though.Price's cheaper than other popular seafood restaurants, despite showing the same view. We spent 520 k for 4 main courses and 1 side (vegetable); very reasonable for both the food & view. The place was not so easy to find, especially if you're a first-timer in the city.

Rumah Laut Cafe & Restoran

Reviewed By Jose G

Spent the evening in Rumah Laut resto and the views are quite spectacular and the food is indeed very good. For Indonesian standards not spectacular, but good. Papua, however, is not known for its cuisine and certainly you don't come over here because you are interested in food: against this backdrop, Rumah Laut stands out. We had an enjoyable meal; I ordered a crab which was very good, but as most crabs, had little meat, so I also ordered a tuna stake which was also quite tasty. However, when I had to pay the bill, the crab was five times more expensive than the tuna stake. It was, by far, the most expensive dish I've ever paid in my trip to Indonesia. As a matter of fact it costed more or less what I have spent over the last four days in food: just one meal! Surreal. And one that didn't particularly have much food to it. When I inquired about the price, I was told that the price that appeared on the menu was the price of 100 grams. So the crab real price was far higher than that. Although, in fairness, this was indicated beside the price, out in the dark and me being short sighted, I didn't really see it. Most importantly, I wasn't warned that the price varies. And even worse than that, the crab was served with all the heavy shell, included the main body that has no meat, but adds an extraordinary amount of weight. The only point of serving all the shell and the body is to make it more expensive while serving a smaller portion. This was very deceiving and looks more like a cheap way to rip off the diners -especially if they are foreigners. You would expect such a fancy place to be above these cheap tricks, but no. So tomorrow I will be back to eating on the streets, to the nasi goreng place. It is always good and they never rip you off. Very disappointed. After what should have been a fantastic night out, I was left with a sour taste in my mouth.
