Reviews on Asian food in Irkutsk, Irkutsk Oblast, Russia. Founded in the mid-17th century as a winter quarters for traders and tax collectors, Irkutsk came to prominence in the 1800s. Participants in the Decembrist revolt against Tsar Nicholas I were exiled to Siberia in droves, turning Irkutsk into their cultural center. Today, it’s one of Siberia’s biggest and most important cities, with over half a million people, many universities, many historic churches and museums, and beautiful Lake Baikal, just about an hour away by train.

Had a delicious, fresh Chinese meal consisting of a shredded vegetable salad and stir fried pork. My wife and I shared both plates and left satisfied. The vegetable dish was a real winner - the crunchy vermicelli noodles and tangy sauce made the dish memorable. The atmosphere was also a pleasant surprise - tropical birds everywhere, including on the hostess' shoulder! The only downside was the lack of an English menu, though we got lucky with an English-speaking server around.

The first thing that makes this restaurand different from others is the chairs. They are "equipped" with some very soft pillos, which makes it very comfortable to sit. I only took non-alcoholic mojito and it was good. The people who I've been there with also took some beer and food and they liked it. The restaurant is located in the center of the city but it's very quite inside. I didn't see any flies or bees and didn't hear any cars.

Not a disappointing place to grab some sushi before heading to Lake Baikal. I tried several rolls and they were all good. The service was fine and almost frinedly (for russian standards).

Place is clean, nice interior. I am vegetarian and still found several dish there. Big issue: food was over salted and minor issue: the girl waitress several times made a mistake with order. Would not comeback.

I visited this restaurant with a big group of cousins. The restaurant offers the ethnic food from my original region Buryatiya. We had very special national dishes but there are also dishes adapted to a "european" taste. The service was excellent! Negative point: no wifi (you have to register with a russian mobile number); it's in a very busy street (when you go out for a sigarette, there are lots of cars passing by).

Mamay is a restaurant of traditional Baikal cuisine, combining the directions of Siberian, Buryat and Mongolian versions of cooking. Visit Mamay restaurant and immerse yourself in the true Baikal culture.
Nice setting with a menu full of specialities from the area and beyond. Unfortunately the horse steaks were out, so had to go for secondary choice. Dumplings were quite nice, the horse sausage was delicious, but the unfortunate one in our group ordered a filet mignon, that was clearly not what it should have been. Terribly chewy chunk of beef. The soups with horse meat were unimpressive and the service was distant which altogether left us a bit unsatisfied. Most likely there are better options nearby.

Korean Panasian restaurant. Located right in the city center at crossroads Marks and Lenin streets. Wonderfull taste and very affordable prices.
Location. Location. Location. Let's begin here with the fact that Kim-Chi is located very close to the intersection of Karl Marx St and Lenin St here in Irkutsk. Starting at the Southeast corner of the intersection, across from the Lenin Monument, you walk Northeast up Karl Marx Street away from Lenin Street. At the first street, Krasnoarmeyskaya ( Krasno Armey Skaya ), turn right and walk a short distance to Kim-Chi. It will be on your right.Kim-Chi is a small venue that has a very tasteful interior decor. The staff seemed to speak no English. The menu is a photo menu and that helps immensely. I opted for a bowl of Spicy Korean Noodles with Chicken. They were absolutely, positively, OUTSTANDING. And? They were just a tad on the pricey side of thlngs. 320 Russian Rubles (U.S. $5) for quite a small bowl of noodles. If you cross Lenin Street, walk down (Southwest) Karl Marx to Marata Street, turn right and up a block or so you will find another (quite a bit larger) Kim-Chi Cafe / Restaurant. I visited this other Kim-Chi on Marata Street after eating at this venue and it is now on my immediate To-Do List taking my wife with me this time.

Lots of reviews over here mention Mongol food, which is fundamentally wrong. I am an expert on this region and I can state that it is not a Mongol cuisine, but a Buryat one. Althogh they are close. This is the fancy restaurant in Irkutsk. The menu is quite interesting. I ordered hot tea with milk, and of course local baozi (pozy as they are known locally). The owner has a collection of hats - sometimes they show it to the visitors, but I was not that lucky)))

Don't come here if you're looking for authentic sushi. We were hungry and desperate for halfway decent food after being on the train for three days, but the best I can say about the food here is that it was... not terrible. I guess if you don't have any expectations of what sushi is supposed to be like the food is decent enough. If you come from a place where sushi is common you are not going to be impressed with the food here. The staff were very nice though.
