Happen to be in or near Effingham Illinois? Tryout Fujiyama Steakhouse. The meal was very good. Lots of choice. Atmosphere is pleasant. There are 4 large cooking tables and your chef prepares the meal right in front of you with a little show. You sit around the cooking table and if your party isn't large enough for the entire table you are seated with other smaller groups. The kids are impressed with the open flame and the egg roll trick. Fun evening and very unexpected in Central Illinois.

Was travelling cross-country with my brother in a 24' uhaul truck, and decided to drive into roughly the middle of town rather than make an easy stop on the interstate. It was perhaps the best decision of the entire trip! Completely old-style chinese "dive"...walk up order counter where you order by circling your choices on a paper menu. Love a place where I can see what's going on in the kitchen, and you can see almost every step of the preparation...it's like looking back in time into the from-scratch way things were made before sauces came from grocery stores. No real seating area (one 8' banquet table w just a few chairs) emphasizes the take-out nature of the place. Perfect experience (i personally consider it a huge plus if the family who owns/works the restaurant doesnt speak english amongst themselves), awesome food (broccoli stir-fry and a veggie stir-fry...brother had beef dish), and fair prices were a very appreciated welcome on a long road-trip. Next trip I'm routing it so I swing thru this way again for sure. Incidentally I treasure a place that cuts the veggies for my food the moment before cooking them...guaranteed freshness is more than a relief. I saw a 1 star review that complained about a fallen veggie getting kicked out of the way. I don't comment on other post but felt need for exception...that practice is standard for most any restaurant at every level. Keep cooking, keep ur hands clean, and the floor gets done at end of every shift.

When we were looking for Asian food in Effingham, this place didn't come up! We had almost settled for Mexican when we happened to pass this place. So glad we stopped! The owner/server was delightful, and on a slow Monday night was willing to practically make us anything we wanted. Everything seemed to be made from scratch, and everything was delicious! If we lived here, it would be a favorite spot! Highly recommended!

The ambiance was nice and the venue seemed clean. The restaurant was about 25% full. The trays were all pretty full at 11:30am will all the normal things you'd expect at a Chinese Buffet. I thought it was fairly good and well presented. The price was a very reasonable $8.98. I will be back.
