Opted for their special offer menu of poppadoms, chutneys etc followed by onion baghei, chicken curry, rice and Nan breads. We all had drinks and the bill for 4 people ....... only £52! Brilliant. Waiters very attentive. Going to go back this weekend. Best Indian around

tried viraj restaurant in darlington for the first time tonight - it was amazing. 10/10. firstly, the food was perfect. started with poppadoms and dips...then had butter chicken, lamb rogan josh & shared some chips, keema rice and a cheese naan. so fresh, tasty and moreish. secondly, the staff were so lovely and chatty and genuinely cared about their business. thirdly, the restaurant is small and intimate with around 6 tables - which created a perfect atmosphere. itâs their 1st year anniversary next week & theyâre hosting a party on the sunday - look in to it as theyâre offering a really good deal. we canât go as weâre out for fireworks otherwise i would have defos gone back! loved it!

We havenât been since the refurbishment but used to come regular for Sunday lunch and always enjoyed it. Todayâs was very disappointing, the meat was tough the lamb, turkey and even the gammon. The selection of vegetables isnât as good as it used to be either. Couldnât cut the parsnips as they were hard too. For the price you pay and the time you have to queue this really isnât worth it and we wonât be back!

Long established small family run restaurant, attentive friendly service, dishes are prepare and cook from fresh ingredients. Selected regional Chinese dishes with lightly to hot spicy in taste.
Had an excellent evening meal in this restaurant. Right from the start, the staff were very attentive and helpful. I was able to order a set meal then add a few extras without adding much cost - great value for moneyParticularly, I enjoyed the starter pancake roles, which were served with lettuce leaves to wrap around them and a lovely pique sweet chilli sauce. Yum yum. Meanwhile the main course was a collection of lovely chicken dishes and included Singapore noodles that positively sang on the tongue. The egg fried rice was nice and eggy, with a hint of rice, which is nice. For desert I had a plate of mixed fresh fruit, beautifully sliced and diced. So if you want an eastern treat then this is the place in Darlington centre to meet and eat.

Visited this superb Indian restaurant on a Saturday night with a friend. Have been there probably a dozen times before. The restaurant is quite small once inside & even if you've booked (advisable...) eg. a window seat, you sometimes still have a wait until you get your table. The food - and drinks are exquisite. This place never disappoints, even due to its rural location. The staff work extremely hard & are always courteous, thanking you for coming & seeing you out after your visit. This restaurant will still be there in 100 years time simply because of the excellent name & goodwill that beholds it. Pay it a visit - you won't be left disappointed.

Donât know what happened but lately the food has become poor. Smaller portions, food that is tasteless and often quite different from my previous visits.I believe the Chef has been changed and you can tell, it is just not the same, bring back the old Chef and you will bring back the Sparkle this restaurant used to have in spades!

After reading many great reviews we decided to try Akbar. We were not disappointed, the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The food was delicious, the sort of dishes you feel the recipes go back generations and should remain top secret. Would be interested to try some of their Thai dishes next time.
