Find out what Asian restaurants to try in Bay of Plenty Region. The Bay of Plenty (Māori: Te Moana-a-Toi) is a large bight in the northern coast of New Zealand's North Island. It stretches from the Coromandel Peninsula in the west to Cape Runaway in the east, a wide stretch of some 259 km of open coastline. The Bay of Plenty Region is situated around this body of water, also incorporating several large islands in the bay. The bay was named by James Cook after he noticed the abundant food supplies at several Māori villages there, in stark contrast to the earlier observations he had made in Poverty Bay.

This was dinner out with my sonâs School Hockey Team during the annual AIMS Sports Tournament. The restaurant was absolutely jam packed. This did not affect the service we got as the staff were extremely accomodating finding extra seating for unexpected guests. The range of buffet food was incredible which an enormous range of food. With being so busy fresh food was flowing from the kitchen as fast as guests were serving themselves. For such a huge number of guests and selection of dishes, everything I got and ate was delicious and cooked extremely well. As you finished staff were quick to pick up empty plates enabling you to have another serving. All this for a very good price of $23 per person. What a great experience

We had dinner ( 27/07).Didnât know if we have to book. Was there at 5.30pm, restaurant still close but there are activities within.Daughter decided to make a booking just incase. We were lucky as we were the last table available. But walk-ins can have their meal too, just at the âbar âcounter .Took awhile to come but was worthwhile waiting. As my daughter is well versed in Japanese food, it was very nice just to sit and enjoy the food not worrying what to order.Food arrived piping hot, good flavour, nice food.Price wise is ok.Definitely recommend this place and make sure you book a table if you want to be seated at a table instead of counter. On saying that, counter top is also a very good experience as you get to see the Japanese chef preparing sashimi and other delicacies.

Located in the Bay of Plenty, Johney's Dumpling House is a purveyor of fine dumpling artistry and leaders of the revolutionary street food culture. Every single delicious dumpling is handcrafted to perfection with the flavours of 3 generations behind us.
There are normally a few different dumplings available - siu mai in three or four flavours and some regular dumplings that can be steamed or fried. They're perfectly reasonably priced and generally perfectly OK if nothing particularly special. Occasionally odd "fusion" flavours turn up (chicken and cranberry and others) but they are possibly not as good as they are interesting. If this sounds unenthusiastic I should mention that I do eat and enjoy their food quite often but after much time in the East I'm a bit picky with dumplings.

Our favourite curry is the Massaman, tonight we had the Slow cooked beef massaman, it was delicious, one of the best massamans we have had. the service was excellent and fast, the place was not too busy (we were early - 7pm) and the only thing that spoilt it - screaming kids! (why can Kiwi parents not control their brats - or eave them at home!) Anyway, we will definitely go again - and take friends!

Admittedly we did arrive at this bar around early on a Friday afternoon, so we couldn't have expected the place to be pumping. In saying that, the Happy Hour had been open an hour already so we were a little wary when we found ourselves standing in a deserted bar. Still, the barman was welcoming, and gracious - mixing some delicious cocktails, and checking in on us regularly. My only complaint is that the menu offered a special price for ordering a cocktail and a plate of edamame beans. However, when it came time to pay we had to pay full price for both items (rather than the special price) since the barman explained that the cash register dictated the prices and he wasn't able to edit them. Hmmmm. Not a huge deal, just a little inconvenient.Hi TeaIanSorry to hear your experience wasn't 100% satisfactory, the bartenders response was wrong and we apologies for this. Please let us know the next time you are in and we would love to treat you to a complimentary Happy cocktail and happy beans.Warm regardsMacau Management

Rotorua's most awarded restaurant with awesome atmosphere and flawless service.
We are regular visitors to this restaurant. The food is consistently of high standard and the staff are so professional and friendly. We get the non-vegetarian banquet and that covers all corners of the menu. Takeaways are always high standard too. Highly recommend.

Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine Vegan and vegetarian friendly with dairy and gluten free options Takeaways always available
I lived in the United States my whole life before coming to New Zealand five years ago. Before coming to Tauranga, we ate Vietnamese all the time, in New York City, Delaware, Denver....my husband worked with immigrants from Vietnam who cooked for us and who told us of the best restaurants to try. Rice Rice Baby is NOT authentic by a long shot. We have given this place two chances and it did not impress us at all. I had the spicy prawn stir fry and it tasted awful... Frozen peas and frozen corn, terribly flavored rice. The beer drinking chicken was awful. Everything was overpriced and the portions underwhelming. Cool atmosphere and friendly staff, but doesn't make up for the fact that the food was just not good and nowhere near authentic. If you want a more authentic and more affordable option, go a few doors down to Hello Banh Mi, run by actual Vietnamese immigrants who know what they are doing in the kitchen.Hello mythicalmel, I'm sorry you were left disappointed with your Rice Rice Baby experience. Please understand that one of the owners (who is also the head chef) and three quarters of our kitchen staff were born in Vietnam and all the dishes on the menu are their family recipes passed down through generations. Your review is certainly at odds with the vast majority of the reviews we have received so I would love to talk to you more about it if you'd like to email me on the address listed on our website or private message me here through TripAdvisor. Alternatively, you're welcome to come in at any time and I will apologise to you in person. All the best, Matt

My wife and I have just finished dinner here and it was beyond superb. Small place but packed on a Monday night which is testament to its authenticity and quality.Chicken satay for entree and beef massaman for dinner washed down with a glass of red and a couple of beers.Great taste and big serves at a reasonable price.Owner and staff were very friendly. If youâre in Mt Maunganui and enjoy Thai food, definitely give this place a go.
