authentic flavor and good 'heat' control - medium spice is enjoyable. Comparable flavor to Bangkok street food - and huge portions! Ambience is consistent with the prices, and acceptable.

Blink as you come past the Pekin Tokyo and you'll miss it, and that would be a real shame. This diminutive restaurant serves Japanese, Chinese and Korean dishes, both dine-in and carry-out, and has an extensive list of sushi, too. Most of the chicken dishes use only white meat chicken, and we found the meats to be fresh and tender. The sauces were flavorful, and we were especially impressed with the Gyoza (fried dumplings) and Crab Rangoon, which was crispy and extremely delicious. The 'mid-range' price is more expensive than almost all the Asian restaurants in the area, and a decent-sized dinner for two with appetizers will set you back over $30. The portions are large, so if you're a delicate eater and/or on a budget, select the lunch-sized portion. We moved to Allen Park about a year ago and although Pekin Tokyo is less than a mile from our house, we had been driving to Taylor and Southgate for Asian cuisine. Our opinion of the other Oriental restaurants we visited was largely "meh". Who knew we had such an excellent option right down the street!

Marika had fish and I had a noodle dish. Both were unexpectedly good, so I inquired about the origin of the sauces. I was told that they all were made from scratch onsite, even the tarter sauce that came with Marika's fish. Details of the place are Hungarian, right down to the red peppers hung over the door to the kitchen.

Check out the fabulous food at the Bangkok 96 on Peterborough in Detroit. Located inside the Detroit Shipping Company, you can enjoy drinks, excellent food, art and good company. We had excellent veggie dumplings and spring rolls. In our party of 8, everyone loved their dinner from Bangkok 96. Added bonus: they have actual sample platters on display so you know what youâre getting. A word of warning, the spicy is SPICY!
