A shave ice place in Woodruff, Wisconsin? How good could it be? Well, it isn't good----it's great! Like many folks, we have been to Hawaii and enjoyed the shave ice. Unfortunately, the snow cones one usually finds in the mid-west just don't measure up. We passed Summer Ice Shanty a number of times on a recent trip and finally decided to stop on a hot afternoon. So glad we did! The shave ice at Summer Ice Shanty is the real thing with soft, fluffy ice atop vanilla ice cream. You have your choice of up to three syrup flavors or you can order one of the wonderful flavor combinations suggested on the menu board. Know that each shave ice (we went back a number of times) is constructed in such a way that the flavors (which are very tasty without being overly sweet) are infused from top to bottom. Perhaps not surprisingly, the couple who run the Summer Ice Shanty are delightful people who are very pleasant and accommodating and take care and pride in crafting each treat. Were this place in our home town, we would be there every day. Definitely a place worth checking out.

We have enjoyed Heart II and stopped in today. Server told us they'd had a busy weekend...no Swiss cheese or Spotted Cow. What we ordered was fine. However, they are charging 3.5% if you use a credit card. This should be noted on the menu and not surprising you on your credit slip. I would rather pay a bit extra for my food than this fee. Be forewarned.Hi there. Sorry about the confusion on the fee. It is listed on the bill you received for your meal all in caps at the top of the slip. I will be sure to add it to our menu as well. Iâm glad you enjoyed your meal though and again sorry for the confusion on the processing fee.

We had a delicious dinner here. There were a lot of healthy choices and a very interesting menu. We had the brussle sprout appetizer and it was really yummy. The shrimp curry was perfect. The salmon salad was a great value. An entree portion with a large side salad. The brisket sandwich and barbecue burger were deemed good too. The cocktails were well poured.service was good. . Would definitely come back here!

I stopped with my wife last Monday as we were traveling south to home. I always liked this place for a burger and a brat. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly and attentive. But that's where it stopped. The place was full at lunch time, we expected that. We waited about 30 minutes for our food and wondered what was taking so long for a burger and a brat. I looked around and nobody had food. The bartender came over and politely said it wold be another 30-60 minutes. Wait what??? We paid out tab and left.

Well, during the Summer season, particularly on the days of the waterski show next door, you will have a long wait if you arrive after 5:30. Many of the crowd is older anyway and likes to dine earlier. However, if you don't mind a 45min wait (or choose to dine after 7:30) you will be rewarded with an outstanding meal. There were six of us and all raved about our dinners. Two had the perch fish fries and one ordered walleye and we all thought it was the best we have ever eaten in Northern Wisconsin. The perch was crunchy on the outside and tender inside--not at all tasting "breaded"The dinners came with soup and salad and the Hungarian mushroom soup was a big hit. Our 13 year old godson ordered the Ahi Tuna, (a very sizable portion) ate every morsel and said he could eat another. The appetizers are all very generous portions, too---good for sharing

It was Wednesday, on the Fourth of July weekend, and we were a few minutes early for our 7 pm reservation. The place looked pretty busy. We checked in with Neil, the maître d', who also appeared to be the owner of the joint. Neil told us to grab a drink at the bar and he would "see what we can do" about getting us a table. Was he kidding or what?We found 2 open seats at the bar. There was only one bartender, and although she was obviously busy with drink orders she appeared to be ignoring us. Finally she came over and took our drink orders. We sipped our cocktails and gazed out at the lake just outside the bar window. Neil came over and asked us if we wanted to sit inside or outside, and soon we were seated at a lovely table on the patio overlooking Big Arbor Vitae Lake.It was a beautiful summer night, with no pesky bugs, and soon our young waitress arrived to take our food order. We ordered Onion Rings and salads as an appetizer, and for our entrées I got the Baby Back Ribs and my partner ordered the Peel and Eat Shrimp. We sipped our drinks and chatted while we watched the boaters out on the lake. The appetizers arrived in short order. The onion rings were quite delicious, and the salads were fresh and crispy. Then our main entrées arrived, and I must say that the ribs were pretty darn good. My partner enjoyed her shrimp as well. The only problem was the service. When we asked our young waitress about the nightly special--the Red Snapper--all that she could tell us was that she thought that it was spicy. And once she brought our main entrées out to our table she disappeared for a long period of time, never more to be seen. We would have liked another round of drinks to go with our meal. WHen she finally did appear again we placed our drink order, but by the time that it arrived we were done with our meal. The young waitress stated that the "bar orders were backed up".In sum, the setting on Big Arbor Vitae Lake is fantastic, the food is pretty darn good, but the service was slow and inattentive--hence the three stars. We would probably go back the next time that we are in the Minocqua area as the table right next to us appeared to be getting superb service from an older waitress who seemed to know what she was doing. And with such a busy bar, why is there only one bartender???

This place had a waiting list at 2:30 in the afternoon. They texted us when our table was ready, so we could walk around and enjoy the scenery. They offer lakeside dining, and many tables over looking the lake. Very good menu choices and the food and service was excellent.

The fish fry was just okay. I had the broiled cod and it was a bit overdone. I thought it was a bit pricey for what you get.

I have driven by this place for decades (seriously) and never considered it. A local mentioned they have a good breakfast. They have a great breakfast with home made food across the menu. I had a half order biscuit & gravy, 1 french toast, and split a roll. My wife had eggs, american fries, and bacon. All of it was good. It is a older diner and the coffee was; well, it was hot.

We went there for Fathers Day. They only were serving the all you can eat family style with fried chicken, ribs, and pot roast. The food was alright the service was good. The strangest thing was they brought us a plate of chicken for three of us containing 1 wing, 1 leg and 1 thigh. My wife asked if she could get some white meat. They came back with another wing. I could not help but laugh. She asked if she could get a breast. The waitress said she would see what she could do and came back with another thigh. Apparently they only serve breast less chickens. We asked for salad which was on the menu and received a bowl of old iceberg lettuce. Best part of the meal was the mashed potatoes and gravy. Overall the price was way to high for what we received.
