Popped into Claireâs for a quick bite of lunch before taking a campus tour. There were plenty of options and we each had something different - however our younger teenage son was not too impressed with the vegetarian burger!Great atmosphere and plenty of tables, with customer toilets on site.

From the name of the restaurant, I was thinking it was a steak place, but I was happy to find plenty of vegetarian options. The waitress was friendly, and the cocktails and food were very tasty and satisfying. I enjoyed the quirky decor and ambiance. They had a great beer menu with lots of local options.

Average breakfast (variety, ingredients, preparation, presentation and taste) with average service at average value near main Yale campus. Would I dine here again? Probably not. Would I recommend it to others? Yes, if you want something more substantial than Starbucks (nearby) but don't want to walk around for other places.

Zinc is an excellent restaurant in downtown New Haven. It changes in its menu often. The reason it changes is because itâs a farm fresh to table restaurant so they use what is in season. During the summer they have a fixed menu which makes it a little more reasonable for people to go. Anytime you go is excellent

Traffic on I-95 near New Haven was pretty bad. When my wife spotted a sign along the highway for a local diner, she suggested that we should take a break and have some lunch⦠Seemed like a good idea! We finally arrived at Georgieâs Diner. It wasnât âexactlyâ right off the highway nor was it right on the road that we exited onto⦠But we persisted mostly because we love diners!Georgieâs Diner has that classic diner âlookâ. This structure was built in New Rochelle New York in 1956. From there it was moved to Stratford Connecticut. Finally, in 1967, the diner was moved here to West Haven Connecticut. George Anthis completely restored this diner in 2009, hence its name! We were lucky to find a parking place! This place is popularâ¦and like most diners, itâs not a huge space. The good news is that we ended up sitting at the counter right next to all the action. Many if not all of the waitresses had been working at Georgieâs for more than a couple of yearsâ¦and they knew what many of their âregularsâ wanted to eat before they sat down.I saw that they had Split Pea Soup on the menu as the daily soup du jour and I ordered a cup to accompany my lunch. It was very nice indeed⦠For my lunch I ordered the Grilled Reuben. ($12.50) I chose grilled pastrami over the optional corned beef. The sandwich included sauerkraut and melted Swiss cheese on Georgieâs fresh baked rye bread. Instead of Russian dressing I asked for spicy mustard. Grilling both the pastrami and the rye bread really made this sandwich pop! Happy taste buds resultedâ¦After perusing the menu, my better half decided to go for something thatâs hard to find in East Tennessee. This is Georgieâs Dinerâs version of a Philly Steak. ($12.99) The shaved beef sirloin was served on a large roll with cheese, grilled mushrooms and onions. It normally comes with peppers but she had them leave it off her sandwich. It was a big sandwich and my wife thought that it was pretty tasty too! A side came with her Philly Steak and she didnât feel like French fries. An unusual option on the Georgieâs Diner was tortilla chips and salsa. It was a nice change. If Georgie's was located anywhere near our home in East Tennessee, we'd be 'frequent diners'!

Six of us went to Shell and Bones for a birthday dinner celebration. What disappointed our party may be what would attract others. Let me explain. First, parking is atrocious. The parking lot is far to small for the size of the restaurant, and valet parking is available and virtually imperative....but reasonable at $5.00. Our party was seated at a nice large round high-top table, normally conducive to conversation. However, the restaurantâs popularity attracts many people, and the attendant noise makes conversation difficult unless one doesnât mind shouting. Twenty (20) minutes passed before anyone stopped by to take drink orders, and that was only after we asked for some attention. It was another 20 minutes before drinks arrived. We were READY to drink by that time! Everything at Shell and Bones happens VERY SLOWLY. You will spend a long while waiting for everything, and the noise makes the passing oftime difficult. The six of us ordered 5 different appetizers and meals. They ranged from excellent (the scallop and shrimp ceviches app, the shell and bones entree) to fair (shrimp fra diavolo was bland and filet mignon was bathed in seasoning which overpowered the meat flavor). We almost passed on desert, because the live music began and added to the din, but we did order deserts and they were unique and very good. As I said in the beginning, the aspects of this business which we found to be negative may not bother some patrons, but with the exception of one couple in our threesome, we would not return. Oh, by the way, we were seated at 6:30 and left the restaurant at 10:30. Yes, FOUR (4) hours...far too slow paced for our taste.

Legendary Food, Legendary Service
This is a fun place to have a pretty good steak. Itâs always busy. Keep in mind this isnât a high end steakhouse. You wonât find dark paneled walls and subdued lighting. Itâs noisy and cluttered. You will get a nice meal at a fair price. We ate in the bar area. Service was quick and efficient. Ribs were tender but dry and overdone. Steak was perfect. You are asked to check it before so there are no problems. Waitstaff tries to upsell you with extras but they arenât annoying. Itâs good give it a try.
