We were a party of four that enjoyed the soup, quiche and salad specials. I personally enjoyed the fact that they also had not your average run-of-the-mill sodas available for beverages. The food was terrific, the service was very efficient and friendly, and it's a cozy, charming, eclectic kind of a place. We also saved room for some homemade dessert. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her blueberry pie ala mode and I loved the brownie sundae. This is an excellent spot for lunch when in the Sturbridge area.

Wanted to try an authentic restaurant that looks like itâs been part of New England since the beginning, and Oxhead Tavern fits the bill. Great atmosphere! My husband and I enjoyed the side salad (really good, not bitter), the fried calamari, and the steak tips. The house-made thousand island dressing was delicious. Jessica was a very friendly, professional, and timely server. We did arrive just before the Friday dinner rush, as it was getting crowded when we were leaving. Plenty of parking. Clean bathrooms. In warmer weather their outdoor deck has a great view!

Could not get a table the first night we dropped in but it was certainly worth making the reservation for the following night.Biggest issue was deciding what to choose from the very tempting menu - four of us chose different appetizers and entrees and no one was disappointed - food was excellent.Service was great - we were made to feel right at home.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch on a Monday afternoon. The place was busy but not full. We had just seen an ad for their new Southern Fried Chicken and we wanted to try it. It came with 4 pieces of breaded chicken. I prefer my breading golden but this came out dark brown but was still tasty. The chicken itself was tender, juicy and delicious. I had corn and carrots with it. The corn was great but the carrot were cooked to the point that they were very soft. The hot fresh biscuit were great. My wife had the mashed potatoes that she enjoyed. The meal was $10.79. I ended with a banana pudding which had rich banana taste, very sweet. With coffee each, tax and tip the bill came to $38.00 along with 3 large pieces of chicken to take home for tomorrow's lunch. Very good value. Our waitress was courteous, efficient and helpful but very abrupt. She seemed to be speeding around and not offering the usual attention although at the same time she attended to our needs. When I ordered the pudding she left without asking if my wife wanted some but then brought the pudding with two spoons. She never asked if we wanted more coffee. Still, she earned the 20% tip.

This place is average on every level, even their beer is average- how they present their beer on a big chalk board that half the restaurant canât see is not user friendly. Server didnât know much about food or drinks. Nothing special here...

We've been taking a week in New England each Autumn for more than 30 years; the first night of the trip each year we stop in Sturbridge at The Publick House. This year's "opening dinner" did not disappoint. The roasted duck was lovely, and the rib eye was juicy.... cooked long enough to render the fat and moisten the steak, but plenty rare.White chowder and the wedge salad were delicious.... and the Indian pudding was just like it always is- delicious. Our waiter was CHARLES. He's a gem. When you make your reservations (and you should) ask to be seated with Charles. He's attentive and quick, and has as splendid sense of humor..

I have had fish and chips every time we go. It is so good, nice thick fish and perfectly seasoned hand cut fries. Hubby tries something different and has loved it all. Wonderful servers, Chelsea and Briana.

We ate lunch here while traveling thru the area. Really good food and great service. We had four of their daily specials and each was good. We sat at the counter because they didnât have a table and enjoyed interacting with the staff on the other side. Would definitely do it again.

Got there half an hour before closing. Staff were friendly, didn't rush us and we had great sandwiches! Ham, cheese, apple slices, walnuts with honey mustard-YUM! Friend had turkey with cranberry jelly and apple slices. My new favorite sandwich add-on: apples! We got muffins to go, another winner! Great place!
