Nice atmosphere. Big windows. Decor matches the theme of Costa Ricaâs national butterfly, the Blue Morpho. Owner and host Matt/Mateo is bilingual (English/Spanish) and bicultural (having lived in the U.S./Latin America). Heâs also gregarious, charmingly witty, and by his own admission, handsome (with most hair growth on the south end of his head). My wife (a serious carnivore) said it was the best steak sheâd had after one week in the country. Go for the food; stay for the welcome.

We stopped in here just by chance for a late-evening meal. We were so pleased with the authenticity of the food (my fried green plantain w chicken was AMAZING!). They have a serious variety of menu items for such a small place. My daughter said it was one of the best spaghetti bolognese sheâs ever had. The family that runs the restaurant (and maybe the inn) is very kind and friendly. The food comes out slowly, a good sign that itâs all freshly made!Donât pass up this little gem!

We popped into this fried chicken joint that is across the street from the ever popular Taco Taco, and we were not disappointed. The man at the counter offered us a menu in English or Spanish. You place your order with him, have a seat, they bring you the food, and you pay after you have eaten. My husband and I each ordered the fried chicken (breast and wing, but you could also choose a thigh and leg for the same price) and decided to split a large order of fries. We were surprised by the size of all the food. The chicken was huge! Enough for two meals. The fries filled up a large plate. The chicken was extremely well cooked with crispy flavorful skin and juicy meat on the inside. The total cost was 8,400 colones, including 2 beverages, which is less than $16 USD. Don't be afraid to try this place out.

We stayed at the Monteverde Forest Preserve and while the accommodations were bunk beds and no hot water in the sink, we received 3 meals at Raices with one night stay. The food was delicious, beautifully prepared, fish excellent and the service was superb. We were to take off early in the morning for a guided tour of the cloud forest and the restaurant was not open early enough for breakfast. Because we asked about it the night before the maitre d/waiter and chef came in early and cooked and served us breakfast to provide us a good customer service experience. We started our 3 hour walk satisfied and grateful. Wonderful restaurant for after a hike at the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. I am gluten free and I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner and had wonderful desserts.
