It isn't easy to persuade my 100-year-old mother to leave the comfort of her lakeside home. But she consents for special occasions, like Easter Sunday or Mother's Day, both of which we have celebrated at Lakeview Grille in Yorkville in recent years. Located at 604 West Veterans Parkway, off US 34, overlooking a large pond, it is a pleasant gathering place with a bar and friendly, attentive service, even when it is crowded as it always is on special occasions. For Easter, our party of six enjoyed the hustle and bustle while sampling as many items on the splendid menu as we could. For starters, we had shrimp cocktail, bruschetta, calamari, cream of chicken with rice soup, shrimp DeJonghe and Baked French Onion soup. For entrees, we chose nine-ounce red snapper with baked potato, seven-ounce filet mignon with mashed potatoes, nine-ounce grilled salmon with garlic mashed potatoes, 16-ounce ribeye with loaded baked potato, 10-ounce grilled pork chops with sweet potato fries and honey baked ham with pineapple-cherry chutney and baked potato. Only two of us had room for dessert. Just a couple of scoops of raspberry and chocolate sorbet, please. When we left, we were asked if we wanted to book our Mother's Day reservation. We did. With pleasure.

The Harvester Cafe is a traditional American cafe that is set on RT 34 in the middle of Plano, IL. We love to accommodate any and everyone that comes in for a great dining experience. We serve breakfast all day as well and lunch.
The wife and I tried this restaurant on a recommendation of a friend. We were promptly taken to a table, received our coffee and order taken within a reasonable time. Our breakfast was cook to our liking. The price of the food is higher than our favorite breakfast resturant that we go to.
We enjoyed our first visit. Extremely friendly employees. The portions were plenty w/o falling into "gluttonous" (as you find in many places). Breakfast was not greasy. The prices were reasonable. We will be back! Worth the extra few minutes drive!
Arby's is a leading global quick-service restaurant company operating and franchising over 3,400 restaurants worldwide. Arby's was the first nationally franchised, coast-to-coast sandwich chain and has been serving fresh, craveable meals since it opened i
This is located on the main highway and by the Walmart Superstore. Nothing is different about this Arby's. If you like Arby's you should go here.
Village Courtyard has been serving Chicken George and other home-style dishes since 1982. Located at 120 West Market Street in tiny Somonauk, Illinois, west of Yorkville, Plano and Sandwich on US Route 34 in Kendall County, it is independently owned and operated by the Anderson family and open at 4:30 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday. It has been a popular gathering place for locals for more than 35 years. They make their own salad dressings, sauces and soups. And their special nights--fried chicken on Wednesday, fish fry on Friday and prime rib on Saturday--are standing room only. Village Courtyard also is the home of Chicken George, bite-sized chicken breast pieces battered and deep-fried with home-made George sauce and sweet 'n sour sauce. They also specialize in char-broiled steaks, seafood and chops and hand-roll their pie crusts from their own recipes. You've got to love a restaurant that clings to its old traditions. We recently brought a family of six and sampled everything from soup to nuts. We enjoyed chicken Georgettes, baked Fresh onion soup, fried green beans, mozzarella sticks and several shared Chef Salad, a lettuce blend topped with diced ham, grilled chicken, egg, tomatoes, red onions and cheddar-jack cheese with 1,000 Island dressing. Enough for a whole meal. We also had grilled salmon, baked scrod, jumbo shrimp, tilapia and eight-ounce filets. For dessert, we shared home-made apple pie, strawberry shortcake and home-made cream puffs (or profiteroles) filled with vanilla custard and topped with hot fudge. It only proves that if you have a good product, people will come, no matter where you are located, small town or big city.
Well staffed and friendly. Food is better than average Subway fair. Parking is bad (limited, best to park in back) and don't go during the lunch hour for the near-by high school or you will be in a line out the door.
You'd never know a place like Gene's Carry-Out exists unless you take the time to spend some time in a small town like Sandwich, Illinois, about 70 miles southwest of Chicago. What are we doing there? Many years ago, my parents retired to a home on Lake Holiday, a man-made lake located between Sandwich and Somonauk. We discovered several good dining spots in the vicinity, including A's, which we reviewed last fall, and now Gene's Carry-Out, which has been a staple in downtown Sandwich for 25 years. Don't let the word Carry-Out fool you. It is a large sit-down restaurant with a complete menu from soup to nuts, breakfast to dinner. Chicken is the No. 1 seller, lots of it. Friendly service, too. You name it and it's on the menu...chicken, steaks, chops, sandwiches, fish, pasta, good ole hometown and country cooking. If you hail from a small town, you know the place. Every small town in the United States has a Gene's Carry-Out, where everyone stops for coffee and eggs in the morning, hamburgers and fries at noon and southern fried chicken for dinner. It ain't the Ritz but it's good food at the right price.

We have eaten lunch and dinner here in the past. This was our first breakfast there. We were seated right away. The waitress was pleasant. The food was served quickly. We enjoyed the food. Will eat breakfast there again sometime.

Dearborn's Cafe has added a new and welcome taste to the culinary community in Kendall Country and its surroundings. Located in a remodeled old Pizza Hut building at 220 Indian Springs Drive in Sandwich, Illinois, just off US. Route 34 between Plano and Sandwich, some local food lovers have created a popular breakfast/lunch restaurant that specializes in breakfast but also offers delicious specials six days a week. Open from 7 to 3 daily except Tuesday (closed), Dearborn's Cafe specializes in breakfast fare such as Eggs Benedict with corned beef hash, vegetable omelets with raisin toast and hash browns, eggs with pancakes and hash browns and sausage, biscuits and gravy. Fried chicken is highly recommended for lunch. The daily lunch specials are outstanding-- home-made meatloaf on Monday, pot roast on Wednesday, chicken pot pie on Thursday, deep fried haddock on Friday, fried chicken on Saturday and roasted turkey with dressing, mashed potatoes and vegetables, soup or salad, on Sunday. It's an old school, traditional style of home cooking that the fast-food set dearly misses.

We have driven past the Bull Moose Bar and Grille in Sandwich, Illinois, countless times going to and from my mother's house on nearby Lake Holiday. But until recently we weren't aware of the fascinating history attached to it. Did you know that Bull Moose is situated in an 1893 Pullman Palace dining car used by President Theodore Roosevelt during his 1912 "Bull Moose Party" presidential campaign? The Isabella, as the dining car was called, escorted Roosevelt from coast to coast from 1900 through 1913. It was retired, moved to its present location at 202 South Main Street in Sandwich in 1934, on US Route 34, and opened as a small diner. In 1977, a full-service restaurant and bar were added to the diner. In 2010, a year-long renovation restored the Isabella to its original glory. Bull Moose is well known for its burgers, unique sandwiches, home-made soups and desserts, steak, ribs, chicken, full-service bar, outdoor patio, carryout, four slot machines and Lotto vending machine. On our recent family outing, we sat in the cozy observation end of the Isabella and sampled every item on the menu that our appetites could absorb...shrimp basket, classic mac & cheese, chicken wings, potato skins, Caesar salad, chopped chicken salad, baked cod, chicken pot pie, BBQ ribs, ribeye steak, pulled pork sandwich, Reuben sandwich, Patty Melt, chicken salad croissant, cheesecake, Chocolate Chip Dream and Caramel Apple Delight.
