I have been going to 1777 since 2015, i have been with friends, family or alone, and after all these years i have decided to finally write a review.This is a place which is in a beautiful stunning courtyard, in the midst of basel, one can come here for lunches, for an apero or just for a coffee and cake!the selection they have is wonderful and clear, from salads and sandwiches ( which you can modify as you wish ) to burgers and pastrami-sandwiches to these apero âplättliâ with meats and cheeses, to a glass of wine.the service is excellent, kind and attentive & i do really enjoy coming here as the atmosphere and ambience is extremely enjoyable.i do recommend this gem to anyone who is looking for fresh, very well priced but âfast-comingâ food. And of course if you would want to, very healthy, salads or such(but the burger is extremely good though...).thanks to all the people who have made all these stays/food-experiences great!

We highly recommend Mel's, been there for burgers a couple of times - homemade buns, delicious choices of fillings, good ground beef - brunch on Sunday - lots of choices, very multi cultural from prosciutto to pancakes, their gelato options are awesome and the decor is proper 50's American diner.Perfect for a get together with friends or family for an affordable fun meal!Oh and the staff speak perfect English and are all super friendly ;)Dear GuestOur Team has read your comments with great pleasure and we are all delighted that you have enjoyed our restaurant. We used to like this restaurant but what has happened to the service and food? Have the owners changed? I had to literally signal for our wine bottle to be opened. Our food took AGES to come and when it did, complete mixup! You can only blame new apprentices so much! I expect more in this country with these prices! After rectifying my dish (whilst my husband already had to eat to avoid it getting cold), I had what I suspect was not the cut of meat I ordered and had to rush as we had theatre tickets. I had already said I would not pay for my meal after this fiasco. Bill eventually came and it was on it! Complained AGAIN and rectified. Never ever again! The same owner has the Minamoto which I also recently visited. Overpriced bland food. This was mid afternoon hunger attack. We had just arrived from Budapest, & our eating hours were off kilter. The burger was a generous size for what we consider a junior cheeseburger to be. We asked for the beef to be cooked ' medium', & it was. There were only a few other customers because of the mid afternoon hour. We sat outside in the shade under the umbrella because of the hot day. It was a good average burger.
