Things to do in Rancho Bernardo
Where do you want to go to lunch? My wife responds; "Chin's". This restaurant is located in the Rancho Bernardo area of the city of San Diego, nestled in a small shopping center. Their menu and decor is reflected of the restaurant's effort to provide a fine comfortable dining experience. Their menu's offer a wide choice of Chinese style entrees crafted to satisfy their dining guests. A little secret, ask for their Plum wine with their fortune cookie. This is and has been our New Years Eve dining destination for over 20 years.

Experience a culinary journey while sampling beers and wines from around the world, many produced in house here in San Diego. The Cork and Craft refines comfort food to the match the ambiance and elegance of the tasting room which boasts 41 taps and dozen
I had sampled a few Abnormal beers and was eager to try a few more so stopped in here for lunch and a flight. I ordered up the 4 beer flight($12) and a buffalo chicken sandwich($13) which came with fries or a salad but i opted for fries. The chicken was a really thick piece of chicken breast which would have benefited and been more eatable from being pounded flat. I feel like I had sampled a few of their best beers before visiting as I found their offerings to have a pretty big range from fantastic to average. I loved the atmosphere in here with the old Edison lights and upscale feel. After i finished my flight and sandwich, I had to give their Maple Mornings a try($5.25 for a taster), it was delicious, and even though I am not a stout fanatic, this was a great beer. The only weird thing is the front door is a bit awkward to know where it is from the parking lot.

Apparently the restaurant and the menu as well are renovation victims of a popular TV program. It didn't totally work. Although the decor definitely needed a face lift, the result is somewhere between a college dorm and an IKEA warehouse. As for the menu, it used to be incredible--pages long. You could always find something to pique your appetite. Now it's 2 sides of a sheet of paper. The celebrity chef who revised the menu never asked about the clientele. He decided to add Korean items because the owners are Korean. So if Kimchee Eggs Benedict is your thing, you are in luck. Several other dishes have been altered to include bulgogi and kimchee as well. Which is fine--if it didn't eliminate the dishes that the restaurant had been known for. And, there's an actual Korean restaurant 100 yards away. I had grilled salmon spinach salad with walnuts, cranberries and hard boiled eggs. It came with something I can only describe as cocktail sauce without the horseradish. So I asked for actual salad dressing and what I got was clearly bottled dressing. Service was dreadfully slow, only one server in the whole place. It will be interesting to see if the changes stick.

I hadn't been to Brother's since it had expanded. Nice to have something like this in the RB area. They offer food to eat or takeaway like sandwiches and pizza, coffee, desserts, as well as many varieties of beer and wine. It's sort of a deli/cafe.What I liked:~Upscale decor and food offerings.~Professional crowd eating lunch.~Large variety of gourmet offerings in beer, wine, cheese, desserts, etc.~Outdoor seating available. What I didn't like:~Not crazy about communal long tables. Who wants to cozy up to a stranger and overhear conversations that close? Would prefer individual tables of 2s/4s/6s.~Confusing -- we walked in and wandered all around the establishment looking for where to order. When we were finally directed to the correct counter, there were 2 different menus...which one to use...?! Lighting is dim and signage above where to order was not very obvious/apparent.~Expensive. Sandwiches are in the $14 range. Should be more like $8.~Parking is tight. The spaces are so narrow that a lot of people were parked over the lines, making the available space too tight.~Water glasses are too small -- I had to get up 3 times to refill my glass and I'm not a water guzzler like some. The staff and managers at Karl Strauss are some of the best of all of their breweries. 4S Ranch has amazing food and appetizers. The managers at present are Nick, Blaine, Josh and sometimes Jennie. The bar tenders are very professional and nice. I highly recommend 4S Ranch Karl Strauss.

Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes creates an all-you-care-to-eat dining experience with a daily selection of made-from-scratch soups and salads and hand-crafted muffins, focaccia, breads and tasty desserts.
From time to time, Souplantation does themes. We happen to go in for one of their strawberry themed events. Strawberry lemonade strawberry salad in general strawberries everywhere. It was enjoyable had great flavor and the uniqueness and the variety was pleasurable. It's still the Souplantation and you try to fill up on soup and salad and bread and pizza which is just okay. Kids love it that's the main reason why we go.

I had the meatloaf meal with a garden salad and vegetables of the day. The meatloaf had beef, chorizo sausage and applewood bacon. It was delicious and reasonably priced. The server was great. Very nice location with plenty of parking and outside seating. We did not, however, sit outside as it was quite chilly.

A Great you-cannot-go-wrong, dependable Steak and Chops restaurant. Nice low key, classy setting, with a muted crowd, with great service and food choices. My first impressions was, this is a great place, to sit back, enjoy a good meal, have a great wine, and have a conversation at a normal volume. In addition to the Steaks, Chops, and Chicken was a surprise of Rack of Lamb ( I got a NY Strip - size choices were very nice ). The wine list and dinning service was very good. Time or order-to-table was very acceptable for a party of five. There was a bar that looked well stocked. The crowd was a little on the older side, which suited my needs. I recommened - so long as it meets your needs.

I ordered Brussels sprouts with no bacon , among other things, and insisted on no bacon at the time of ordering and when I picked up the food. However, when we were having dinner at home at some point in time the Brussels sprouts tasted weird and we found out that it contained some bacon. I am not sure if I can trust the chef again and order here. When I called the restaurant the main thing the manager Amy was focused on is giving me a refund as opposed to making sure this does not happen again. Otherwise, the rest of the order was fine.
