Reviews on American food in Pago Pago, Tutuila, American Samoa including Tisa's Barefoot Bar, Goat Island Cafe, DDW Beach Cafe, Sadie Thompson Hotel Restaurant, McDonald's, Samus Ice Cream Shop
Things to do in Pago Pago
On a small island territory, many ice cream shops compete for a small market of aficionados. I've tried them all but none comes close in quality, excellent flavors, variety, and authenticity to Seamus homemade ice cream. I've tasted the best gelato in Italy and this little gem in Pago Pago American Samoa is definitely competitive. Must try the Oreo cookie dough, pistachio, and almond rocky road. I pass by Seamus to and from work and I rarely miss a stop for delicious ice cream. It's on the main road overlooking Pago Pago Harbor. The place also doubles as a gas station. This is where locals go. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

After spending the morning exploring the island on a Saturday in November, we went in search of something to eat, mid-afternoon. After trying a number of restaurants that were all closed (for the day or for the season), we made our way to McD's, with its impressive exterior. This is one of the only restaurants on the island that you can count on to maintain consistent, reliable hours of operation. Service was very friendly and prompt. Though the building has an eye-catching exterior, the interior was rather plain in appearance. Furthermore, the menu was just like what you find at any average McD's in North America (we always try Maccas when traveling, to see what exotic or unusual menu items are available that we don't have in North America... but not here!). Portion sizes are huge (or typical, I suppose, for American standards).

One of my favorite restaurants, yet this time, the prices on their menu is expensive. A mere small glass of wine costs $10 US, and for the other items on the menu, the prizes do not match the sizes of the plates. The piece of their chocolate cake is very, very small for the prize you pay. the management is out-pricing American Samoa of the regional tourist market, and worst it is doing the locals a disfavor by the prices and sizes of the items on the food and beverage menu. I do not recalled any raise in liquor or food prices in the local business market. Not too sure if we would patronize this place again.

"Don't Drink the Water" beach cafe has the vibe of a local's favorite spot. It is bright, colorful, and features upbeat island music. We enjoyed delicious smoothies (tropical fruit, and papaya), in addition to scrumptious food: the Hawaiian Poke had tuna marinated in a delicious sesame sauce; the grilled fish burger with fries was also very tasty!Service was friendly and welcoming, but not very attentive, nor prompt.

no street addressees in American Samoa
The staff was incredibly friendly and engaging. Wide menu variety - and all has been good (multiple day stay at the hotel). Good local beer. Beautiful views of Pago Pago Harbor. A must stop and dine place in town.

Happened upon this place after lunch - looking for a cold beer. Not only did Tisa's come through on that, but on so much more. First, the people are fantastic - so warm and welcoming. Second, the view in the bay is incredible. Third, the live local music is so peaceful and enjoyable. And finally, being as we happened to visit on a Wednesday afternoon, we were invited to attend a traditional Samoan meal that evening. We agreed and returned just before 7 p.m. They were holding a traditional Umu (sp?) - Samoan feast cooked on wood fire and rocks for large gatherings (there were about 20 people there). Food included; squash, sweet potato, breadfruit, banana, pork, ham, chicken or turkey, octopus, and crushed/creamed taro leaves. The meal was prepared by both her staff and her brother (Chief of the local village). Quite an honor to participate in this event. And it was so good. If you get the opportunity to partake - don't pass it up. Local music, food, festivities and stories are what make up the fabric of culture - and this was wonderful.
