My siblings, two sisters and one brother, and our aged mother decided to breakfast at HyVee instead of the tired Riverside II. I ordered the "Smothered Hash Browns," and three others, two eggs fried or scrambled, sausage or bacon, and toast; my third sister had two fried eggs and hash browns. My order came first, after we were told "It will be a while," but the wait was reasonable. My hash browns were smothered in green pepper, onion, shredded cheese, and mushrooms, with a small bowl of delicious gravy to make them divinely carbolicious. My mother, a foodie and former home economist, tried to find out the type of toast bread because it was sliced thick and very good, she said. The sausages were also tasty, and the coffee was excellent. The cafe is brightly lit and the servers, who bring out hot plates of food and call the eater's name each time, were attentive--my mother did not know she was to order either bacon or sausage. My family devoured their meals and then fell to doing crossword puzzles--there are newspapers available for perusal.
I went to Jimmy John's in the evening to grab a quick supper. I love their unwich because I just don't do that much bread and I am so happy they offer this. When I entered the store, there were no other customers and about 5 workers. I was greeted by one employee who was busy stocking their fresh bread. One worker was eating on break, the other 3 were standing around. They all looked at one another like they were fighting over who was going to have to take my order. I stood there for a good 3 minutes before one girl finally came to the register and didn't seem happy about it. It made me feel like I was inconveniencing them for my business. As usual, the sandwich was good, fresh and healthy, but the service was not so great.

Food is greasy (more so than should be), restaurant generally feels dirty and unkempt. Staff is friendly enough, but that does not make up for the gut-ache we always left with. Will likely not return until the restaurant has an overhaul.

This is my favorite lunch spot in Oskaloosa. It's kind of hidden away in the back of a beautiful gift shop, and well worth searching out. Their quiches are delicious, and they have many unique menu items, along with cappuccinos, lattes and hot or iced teas. An Oskaloosa gem!

What a nice place for diner! Only opened 6 months ago but this place has a great atmosphere, service and food! The perfect service from Matt, the host, combined with the delicious food prepared by chef Michael makes your night out a great experience. A must visit in Oskaloosa

This is an amazingly great breakfast place. The pancakes are awesome! The eggs sublime, and the crowd here friendly and local. I can always count on seeing a few friends here when I come in. The service can be spotty sometimes, but never horribly bad. Weekend breakfast is awesome and a good time to try it. Great place!

We have eaten here numerous times over several years, and although the food isn't bad it always seems like they stop short of moving the ball forward. Have tried many menu items, eaten with large groups and just the family, busy or not, the results are consistently somewhat disappointing. The prices are a bit hefty for the quality of dishes coming out of the kitchen (you can be a snob when you know how to cook well yourself). I would love my next visit to finally impress me, but I've said that for a long time, The Peppertree has potential that it never rose to meet.

Great food, great service, wonderful atmosphere!! I had a chicken/bacon/bbq sandwich and a cup of chili and my wife had the chicken strips...plus we had some fried cheese balls. All of it was delicious. Walls are filled with historical pictures from the area....I could spend hours looking at them! Just passing through town...will have to pass through again some day!
