The Fork & Table

The service was extremely slow, which grates when a restaurant is as loud as this one. Otherwise the atmosphere was charming and the drinks were good. However, the food was extremely overpriced for its mediocre quality—$36 for a plate of 4 scallops that were over-seared is pretty steep, $15 for a burger that was also overdone (the bun was actually black). The bacon-wrapped dates were cloying. We won’t be going back

Rogue Cafe Restaurant

Reviewed By MityC

So the family went here for dinner on a Friday night. This restaurant has a reputation as a good value (ie. prices) and good food. It is located at the northern end of Southwest Harbor so about a 30 minute drive from Bar Harbor. My take was this:Entres ran from $27 to $32. So to me this restauarnt's prices have moved up into the "fine dining" price category. The Red Sky restaurant, located in the center of Southwest Harbor, is considered the fine dining restaurant in the area and its' prices are no different. Sharing 1 appetizer and 2 deserts with 1 bottle of white wine ($37) we came out spending $250 for a family of four. The food was very good, but it didn't blow me away. I had the scallops. They were very good. They came with 2 cold string beans; not sure if they were supposed to be cold or not and it didn't bother me. Also came with a couple of potatoes. My daughter had the gnocchi, which she said was very good. For an appetizer, we had the fried eggplant topped with cheese and pesto. This was rather bland; I would suggest they serve it with more pesto sauce than the drizzle it came with.We really liked the ambience of the Rogue. It is a warm "woody" kind of place. Dress is casual. The service was fine as well. So, would I make a journey here...probably not. Given the price point I would say equal quality can be found in Bar Harbor. Locally, I think Red Sky is better; the atmosphere is lovely there too but perhaps a little dressier...Ooooh boy. Normally, I wouldn’t respond to a review like this (everyone has their own taste), but I just want to clarify a couple things:)You were a lovely table and we appreciate your having dinner with us. You had a 6pm reservation for four and decided you wanted to come later. Unfortunately, this is the busiest (like, insanity) time of the year for our little town. We are usually booked solid, w/ a wait list so we couldn’t change the time. You gave it a good shot though! I think you called a half dozen times.Under no circumstance do we aspire to be “fine dining.” We like to aim more for quality of product and relaxed atmosphere. The total of your check for 4 people was actually $179 pretax. You left a generous 20% tip (thanks!).We do not have any entrees above $28 unless it is a special (or fresh halibut filet, which is currently $30 and a real bargain:)We live in Bar Harbor half the year. We went out to the Lompoc Cafe for dinner last night (great place if you haven’t tried it) and it took us 17 minutes from SWH to BH and we were behind a pokey RV. I believe the trip to Southwest Harbor is totally worth that amount of time.Last, I’m so glad your vegetarian liked the gnocchi! We try really hard to have nice choices for non-meat eaters and vegans.Thank you for the review & hope you enjoyed your trip to the island.

Tucked away in the back of the municipal parking lot off the main drag, Coda is a relatively new offering in Southwest. Once we got over the unpleasant welcome from a tired?/having a bad day?/grumpy hostess who actually rolled her eyes at the pleasant guests at a nearby table(but came around by the end of the night and finally wished us a pleasant good evening), we enjoyed the food, Our waitress was friendly and wonderful. The goat cheese fritters were good but didn't have enough goat cheese in them--tasted a bit like donuts with a bit of cheese in the middle. We made up our own drinks and they were good and so was the bartender's choice of the day. The size of the plates is a bit weird --they are not full sized entrees and they are not necessarily appetizers either--the menu is sort of a fish-mash of varying sized tapas-like dishes. Crab cakes and lobster and grits were really tasty; butter seared halibut was delicious, and the beef sliders were good.

Red Sky

We dined at Red Sky very near the end of the season, taking my sister who hadn't been there in years. The meal was delicious (two ordered crab and lobster cakes and one sole) but the service was best described as leisurely. Almost to the point of "did they forget our order?" Still when the food came it was very well worth the wait. Clean plates went back to the kitchen! Reservations are a must and I suggest made a day in advance. The restaurant is small and wildly popular.

Beal's Lobster Pier

When my husband and I travel, on the last night in an area, we have a “Big Night Out”. We chose Beal’s based on location and the availability of indoor and outdoor seating. The photos of the pier at night were absolutely picturesque! We arrive to find that customers order food from a counter and are given a number. From there, you go to a pickup window to get your beverages. A server brings the food to your table. Customers have to get their own napkins, cutlery, lobster bibs, etc...No instructions are provided on how to disassemble the lobster. (Thank goodness for the internet). After the meal, customers bus their table. We paid for our meal and added a 20% gratuity upfront. In hindsight, we should have paid for the meal and decided on how much gratuity to put in the tip jar afterwards. The young man that took our order was fabulous. The rest of the staff we came in contact with, were unfriendly and rude. The food was beautiful. The corn on the cob, corn bread and slaw were delicious! The Old Soaker Root Beer was quite tasty! The mussels were cold and the lobster was rubbery. The sausage was bland with a gritty texture. With gratuity we spent just under $100. It was not the experience we expected. What a disappointment.Hi Teresa- Thank you for your comments and feedback from your visit, as we use comments such as yours to improve our training and customer experience. We apologize for the unsatisfactory service you received during your visit. We regret not meeting your expectations as it is our mission for all of our guests to leave happy, satisfied and with the desire to visit us again. We've spoken with your team about your visit. We hope you'll give us another chance an stop in again during your stay on the island or in the future to make it right.

Colonel's Restaurant and Bakery

This is a restaurant located in a small community that has a bakery, bar, and restaurant. The experience was all over the place. The lobster quesadillas were excellent, the baked seafood dish was good. The mussels were terrible with a broth that was bland. The Alfredo with seafood was uneatable the blueberry pie should be skipped. Service is abrupt . If you go be careful what you order, stay away from the specials. I would not return.Hmmm. I am very sorry to hear this. Our blueberry pie has been featured in magazines and weddings all across Maine. You do realize you can always tell our Servers of your dissatisfactions and they would have been more then happy to fix your meal. Oh well!

Won't return. It is at the west side of the Mount Desert Island, which is far less popular than their east side Bar Harbor. Their Main Street is short, sweet and one way only. The restaurant is at the namesake inn, which opens May to October only. Unfortunately it's a little windy and cold, they closed the deck. Our table is by the window. The view of NE Harbor is nice. Good service. Good food - crab cake is good. Overall, food is on the expensive side. A cup soup costs $11 - the same price at Bar Harbor Inn buys you a bowl. The Aveleda white is pretty good tho. A persistent fly just won't leave us alone. Cross the street is their garden which is really worth your time.Dear Guest, Thank you for taking a moment to leave us a review! I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy this part of the island, but I am glad the gardens made the tip worth it. We are actually located in Northeast Harbor, at the Southeast tip of the island, not the western side. Many folks do prefer the quieter side of the island, so I hope your review will not deter them from venturing over this way. I am very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the food and the service, as well as the view! Thanks again for taking a moment to leave us a review! Best Regards, Will Matteson General Manager

Popovers, always hot and being made in the kitchen, hot oatmeal, juice, coffee, tea, home made jam, butter and other items. Music on Sundays, other days music but not as many players. This is a by donation breakfast. Always a large group of people who want a good breakfast and help others show up.check by calling to see if they are open as there a few months in the cold weather when they close for breakfast. Well worth the trip. great for the family. Love playing the Uke? bring it, they most likely will tell you it is ok to sit in and play with them. the area seems to be nuts about Uke's. sometimes you get 25 or 30 playing at one time. These are outstanding people who want to help those in need.
