FILLING STATION. The name seems to refer to a gas station but it actually refers to the historic 50's type diner located at 5012 P. Burgos St. in Makati. The restaurant is the brainchild of an ex-US navy chief cook who decided not to move back to the US w
A nice themed restaurant in one of the busy streets of Makati. This street is lined with other themed restaurants so one whould really rely on quality service to make sure that customers come back.I came in to have lunch. First impression, too quiet for a restaurant. No one to greet the customers except for the guard in the second floor. Entrance is too dark and too much decoration that staff wouldn't even recognize that there is an actual customer sitting in one of the benches. I was literally standing beside Colonel Harland David Sanders holding a KFC bucket and for 10 minutes no one ushered me. I think they are more of the evening restaurant where all the lights are on, but as informed they are open 24 hours. I choose the table near the window, it's more diner feeling because of the seat covers. There's an old phone on my table, I'm not sure if that's supposed to be how I would get the attention of the staff. There's this distinct smell coming from the customers and the smokers lounge (I'm not sure if it's still being used) but the AC was poor so just use your imagination. It's just good that it was raining outside so the weather is not that hot. Staff were trained, they know their menu intensively and they know what to offer their guests. I was also asked how I wanted my meat, which is a plus since some restaurants I've been to never dared to ask. Staff were friendly and with all smile even if they are working long shifts. While waiting get amused by all the decorations on the ceiling, the wall, basically everywhere. It's a mixed up decor. You'll see Archie and DC jammed together. Elvis Presley sitting next to the bar. Wonder Woman standing near a vintage car. Food was great, you get what you paid for. Serving was huge, looking around most customers are foreigners so they do offer huge portions. My meat was chared the perfect way, well done but not burnt and dry. There's juice on every bite. Another thing that caught my attention was the lady manager. I'm not sure who she was, but she was shouting at the attendant who was mopping the wet floor. Not a good management skill, specially in front of the customers. It maybe tagalog but people would still understand the expression and the tone of the voice. On my way out and down the stairs they have this small shop that sells liquor, cigars and snacks. Why is the air conditioning strong in that small place! But anyways, I was hoping to find souvenir keychain, magnet or postcards but again there's none. I hope they'd decide to sell those for souvenir junkies like me. All in all it was a nice experience, with minor improvements needed.

Experience was very good. Staff super attentive and ambiance was perfect. Food was very good and clean and was enjoyable. Staff was super accommodating because heavy rains had us stranded there unable to get out so they waited as long as they could to see if we could get out and get a ride.

8 of us enjoyed our dinner here tonight. We shared the sausage and cheese, special spring rolls, and fried thin sliced pork for appetizer, besides 2 kinds of dinner rolls. We also shared the soft shell crab salad, porterhouse steak and carbonara truffle spaghetti, and combinations of pork, chicken, and rice for mains. No dessert as we were very full already. Very good ambiance and extraordinary service from the start till the end. A must visit when in Manila.

I celebrated my birthday recently at the Aruga Cafe by Mesclun. My wife had been searching for a place to hold the party. As luck would have it, we had stayed overnight at the Aruga Hotel to mark the previous Motherâs Day. She found the restaurant quaint and tastefully decorated. And Aruga Cafe it was!Our meeting with their marketing person was a pleasant one, with her making suggestions with the menu. Dawn, thatâs her, was on the mark! Our guests loved the food.Although the restaurant is a bit small, we had enough space for some 60 guests. Using the toilet was a bit of a trick because it is unisex. However, they had staff to âmanage the trafficâ.For starters, the Cream of Squash was a smash hit (the waiter was quick enough to take my dish to my table).Iâll take their Linguine with Truffle Sauce over the offerings of other âItalianâ restaurants. My daughter swooned over it, too.All of my SC (senior citizen) guests loved the âBelly ala Micheâ.We chose âSlow Roast Chickenâ and patted our backs for this choice. It was so good.We enjoyed the âBeef Pot Roastâ as well. But my â5-starsâ go to the âGuava Pork Stewâ, adobo with a wonderful twist. What makes good food even better is the service that goes with it. The staff of Aruga Cafe was lively (they were quick to address the guests concerns and requests), and pleasant. The people manning the door and the reception desk of the hotel were ever-smiling. These people beat the staff in the other big hotel chains. Thank you, guys.If only the menu we had for my celebration was available on the menu daily, I might have found a new, better place to do lunch or dinner whenever Iâm in Rockwell.

We live close to here so decided to try it out. The decor and ambience are quite nice. The staff friendly, helpful and attentive. Thatâs all the positive I can say. It was one of the worst meals THAT I HAVE EVER HAD TO PAY FOR! It didnât start too badly. Tomato soup. Not bad. Had to ask for a side of bread. It was nice the bread was fresh. Next came the chicken liver toast. Which wasnât actually chicken liver toast! It was chicken liver served over half a loaf of stale sweet bread covered in some sort of picked garnish! We had a taste but had to send it back. It was taking too much space on the table. Roast chicken. Dry old chicken. Beef bourguingnon served with congee?? We couldnât even finish the drinks. The only thing we could finish was the tomato soup and table water. On and the side of fresh bread. Guys stick to baking.

Went for the Sunday breakfast and was amazed by the quality of food there.Itâs a hole in the wall place in CBD, but the food is worth the visit.Limited alacarte menu- Ordered three egg omelette with veggies, egg Benedict, one apartment 1B breakfast which comes with two eggs to order, bacon, bangers etc and is huge. Had a orange crepe as well, and also some juices and coffee and Oreo milk shake.Everything was great and probably the best we tasted in Makati. So worth the effort.Only suggestion to give is that they can provide some extra toast as well with the dishes, rather than the half toast each... but not complaining.
