Kittanning (/kɪˈtænɪŋ/ pronounced k-TAN-ing) is a borough and the county seat of Armstrong County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is situated 44 miles (71 km) northeast of Pittsburgh, along the east bank of the Allegheny River. The name Kithanink means 'on the main river' in the Delaware language, from kit- 'big' + hane 'mountain river' + -ink (suffix used in place names). "The main river" is a Lenape epithet for the Allegheny and Ohio, considered as all one river. The borough and its bridge were used as a setting for several recent films.
Visiting the Kittaning area. Saw The Inn advertised in our hotel guest service directory. What a pleasant surprise! We sat in the bar area. Great cozy atmosphere, friendly wait staff, and fantastic food. Choose the recommended fish dinner and wings and we were not disappointed. Good selection of on tap beers too.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner date at the Meredith Inn and will go back soon. The renovated historic inn was interesting and lovely and made for a pleasurable dining experience. Our table for two by a window was somewhat set apart- which we enjoyed. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. The menu selection was varied to suit a range of palettes, and they had a great selection of fish as well as interesting specials. Entrees came with a generous choice of two sides plus salad or soup (the soup selection was too limited). Our meal was nicely paced. We started with the pulled pork wonton appetizer which was delicious. Our garden salads were a nice mix of greens and toppings. Dressings were homemade and delicious. Rolls were served with our salads and were fresh. We were generously offered extra rolls (but declined). For our entrees I had walnut trout and my husband had the grilled arctic char special. Our food arrived promptly and hot. Servings were ample. My trout was exceptional and even the accompanying baked potato and veggie of the day (brussels sprouts - which typically arenât a favorite) tasted extra good. My husbandâs arctic char was grilled to perfection, moist, and delicious. The only slight negative was that my husband was not permitted to substitute the puréed sweet potato that came with the Arctic char special. We were told (nicely), âno substitutions.â My husband, who is not a fan of sweet potatoes, decided to be adventurous but ended up not liking the sweet potato purée. Unfortunately, this diminished his enjoyment of his meal. Iâm hoping that the rather strict policy of âno substitutionsâ changes. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Prices were fair. After our dinner, we took a nice stroll on the sidewalk along the river that is across the street from the restaurant. We will go back soon.
Iâm glad to put Big Andyâs in the trip advisor community! Always a most stop when Iâm working in the Kittaning area! Iâve had just about everything on the menu! Itâs all good, my favorite is the smoked half chicken, beans and the Mac and cheese! The brisket is great the pulled pork is awesome! Itâs just a small place with a couple tables but you getting authentic smoked meats! Give him a try if youâre close! Iâll definitely be back!

This place was taken over by new management recently. I decided it was time to give it a try. The place was empty which is never a good sign. The only people that were there seemed to be friends or family. The whole menu has changed, and not for the better. The menus are cheap and clumsy, and the pages are hard to turn. I specifically came here in the past for the ribeye which was to die for. It's no longer on the menu. The ones they have now are too big for one person, so I ended up with fish. I could have gotten better fish elsewhere for much less money. My husband got a sandwich that was so slimy and messy, he had to eat it with a fork. You no longer get a glass of wine, it's half a glass now for the same price. I won't be back.

Tucked away in an alley in downtown Kittanning is this locally owned bar and restaurant that somehow had stood still in time except for a current credit card reader. Otherwise the place is still a 70s throwback. But the food is good. You can order a Rueben or a delicious fish sandwich and enjoy a good beer too!

Going to my partnerâs family gatherings in Kittanning, PA, over 2,200 miles from California, I didnât know what to expect. Going to a chain restaurant that served the lightest, best tasting, GF hamburgers buns and vegan hamburger patties in Kittanning, PA, wasnât one of them. I donât know how Kings Family Restaurant did it, but every chain in the US should take note. The heavy, dry, crumbly GF buns are a thing of the past. I was so involved with my hamburger I didnât check the otherâs in our non-vegan party of nine. Everyone raved about their lunch and I had no reason not to believe them. The restaurant was very clean, the staff was helpful, clever and funny, and the food was served quickly and tasted great. At the time we were there, the restaurant had quite a few patrons and they all seemed having a great time with their families. The popularity of Kings Family Restaurant in Kittanning, PA, in a very severe economical depressed region, says a lot about the restaurant.

Pizza is excellent. Love the taco pizza. The subs are really good too...especially love the steak and the seasoned French fries. Everything is good...have never had an issue at Mel's.

The atmosphere was nice, the restaurant and restrooms were clean, and our server Samantha was friendly, helpful, and efficient. However, the food was lousy! I had the Rueben. The bread was large but the sandwich was totally tasteless. There was a decent amount of corned beef but only a few strands of sauerkraut and no Swiss cheese. My husband had the fried cod. It was also very large with great breading, but the fish was slimy inside. Then there were the French fries. They were either in the freezer for years or fried several days before and refried, and refried, and refried. They were like cardboard inside. Friends invited us to join them there for lunch so we didnât want to offend them by sending our food back. So we took most of our meals home and deposited them in the compost pile. Our friends must have felt the same way because they left half of their fries and quite a bit of their other food on their plates. This was our first time at Rachaelâs and it is highly unlikely that we will return.

Dizzy Lizzies Restaurant has been around for awhile (1983 and before Dizzy Lizzies, (under different ownership) the restaurant was named Clarks (my partner remembers Clarks in the 1940âs). Itâs a wonderful old fashioned Western Pennsylvania cafe where you can order things like âGrilled Stickiesâ with lots of butter. They are open from 6:00 am until 3:00 pm. When I asked the waitress if they had any herbal teas, she answered âwe donât carry those thingsâ. When I asked for green tea, she responded âwe only have real teaâ. I ordered iced tea with lemon (God forbid if there were any Brits in the restaurant to see me). If you are looking for a real American breakfast in Kittanning, look no further.
