I remember getting pit beef sandwiches from here back in the 1970's or early 80's and the place was excellent! Went back here in 2013 and ownership had changed, along with the product....not quite as good as I remembered. How many times have you heard that!! LOL Well....this is one of the few businesses that I know of that did a reversal and got back to the good stuff from 40 or so years ago! A super sized pit beef sandwich will cost you only $7.00 and they DO pack it with a generous helping of juicy, mouth watering pit beef! I had onion, BBQ sauce and horseradish added to mine. Every bit as good as I remembered from way back when!!

Hopefully we will have another opportunity to return and enjoy Gertrude's. The food, atmosphere, waitstaff, were all outstanding.Cream of Crab Soup was outstanding as was the fresh Spring Pea Soup.Crab Cake Sampler left you hungering for more.A Seafood sald was light, bright, fresh and delicious. Seafood & Roasted Asparagus Risotto was the same. The Scallops were done to perfection and the best we ever had. Most difficulty we had here was trying to choose among so many appetizing menu choices and now that we know everything is great it will be more difficult our next time. Peter was our waitperson and it would not be a mistake to ask for him.So glad to hear you enjoyed your visit and we hope to see you again soon!

We stopped by here for lunch due to the reviews here on TA. We were very glad we did! We ordered the Chicken Chesapeake, Crabby Melt, BCT, Lunch Special (Santorini) and fries. Wow were they delicious! My wife and I normally share our sandwiches, swapping halves. Not this time. My Chicken Chesapeake was amazing! The right combination of crab, chicken and grilled cheese. I had the sweet potato fries which were also delicious. As it's been mentioned before, there is nothing simple about these grill cheese sandwiches. Sure it takes time to get your meal but the wait is worth it! We'd love to come here again to sample the other awesome menu selections. It's a small place with not too many parking places and not wheelchair accessible. We highly recommend.

It was a 2 minute drive from our hotel. A very nicely designed restaurant that needed a little sprucing up outside. It didn't need any help in the kitchen. We both had crab imperial with scallops & shrimp. It was delicious and piping hot from the oven.

My party of eight dined here on a Wednesday night. We had reservations, and were seated promptly when we arrived. That is pretty much the only thing that happened right that evening. Iâll start with the service. For a restaurant that is regularly cited as being one of the best in Baltimoreâand the prices to matchâthe service was not up to par. While all the staff were polite, timeliness and attention to detail were severely lacking. For example, all eight of us ordered from the bar at the same time, but the drinks all came at different times, with some arriving 25 minutes after ordering and reminders to the staff. This is the same as the food. We ordered numerous small plates and snacks, and there were some that the server admitted she didnât put in when questioned. We realize everyone has bad days, and most of have worked in the restaurant industry at some point, but it became a running joke at our table about how often weâd have to remind the wait staff that we had ordered somethingâand if it would actually appear.(There were two items that we ordered at dinner that never showed up at all, and several small plates that were ordered either came after the entrees were served or not at all.) The most disturbing thing to relay is that of our party of eight, four of us became ill over the next 12 hoursâone of us before the meal ended. One of our party left the table before the main course was served and didnât return because she was so sick. She ended up in the bathroom or outside the rest of the evening. A second member of our party became ill on the way homeânecessitating a stop at a city gas station for approximately 30 minutes. The other two experienced significant stomach issues the rest of the night and into the morning. Nothing besides the food and drink at Woodberry Kitchen was consumed in the hours leading up to our meal or in the hours afterward. For a dining experience that cost nearly $600, this is unsatisfactory.

As expected on a Sunday just before noon, it was crowded and there were 6 of us, but it was well worth the wait. Everyone thought their food was great. I had the berry waffle sampler, and there was a ton of very fresh fruit. Others had the Gravy Train Southern Skillet, Eddieâs Beef n Eggs, and the Crab Happy Chesapeake Chicken Sammy. The âSpicy Andouille Sausageâ to be very tasty, but VERY spicy. A bit much for me, but if youâre into that youâd probably love it. Wish we had had room for desert. Definitely worth more visits. Yum! Thank you so very much for sharing your review with us. We sure hope to see you back again soon!

We dined at the Catonsville Gourmet on a Friday evening in July. The restaurant offers a nice selection seafood including soft shelled crabs, when in season. The dining is attractive, bright and comfortable. They apparently don't serve liquor (BYOB) since my friend brought his own wine ... I'm not sure if there was a corkage charge. The seafood was good but not exceptional. My wife's soft shelled crabs were too oily and my sea bass was not rare as I ordered. Neither of us finished our entrees. They weren't bad, just not good enough to elimate the need for a travel box. All in all a solid restaurant but not particularly memorable. .

We decided to celebrate our anniversary by dining and sightseeing within 100 miles of our home. This establishment is only 10 miles away and weâve never visited before. Wow! What great food. Itâs a local âhole in the wallâ that is a must for breakfast or lunch. The portions are very generous, the taste is phenomenal, the service was excellent, and priced just right. We will definitely be making this place a regular stop!!!
