Reviews on American food in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, United States. Gettysburg is steeped in the history of the Civil War. In 1863, it was the site of the epic Battle of Gettysburg, in which some 50,000 soldiers were killed. It is also, of course, the place where Abraham Lincoln delivered the immortal Gettysburg Address. The town itself is made up of houses, hotels and taverns dating back several centuries, but Gettysburg offers more modern travel and leisure activities, as well, like wine tastings, orchard tours, shopping and golfing.

Service was good and very quick to accommodate you. This is pub-style and very basic. I would suggest outside is more romantic perhaps. Inside was a bit too barroom-ish for me. Celtic cuisine was somewhat limited and basic. Done well, but very Americanized versions from what I know to be authentic. Still, it was delicious and I do recommend it, if a tad bland is what you find appealing.

We were spending the weekend in Gettysburg and were looking for a fine dining experience. The restaurant here bills itself as "fine dining" and even offered a prix fixe menu and extensive wine list. Those along with the "excellent" reviews I read prompted me to book a reservation for our one dinner on our weekend away. While many people may think this is fine dining, if you are a foodie and truly frequent fine dining restaurants in larger cities, this will be disappointing. The "charm" of the old battlefield hospital is fine (though not my personal taste) and the white table cloths help give the illusion of fine dining. We had a waitress in training who was absolutely lovely, but her trainer did not have good communication with her (and seemed a little frazzled anyway) and more than once came over to our table to tell us the exact same thing the server in training had just said. We began our meal by ordering a bottle of prosecco which took about 25 minutes to arrive at the table because it needed to be fetched from the wine cellar and then chilled to the appropriate temperature (it was not chilled to the appropriate temperature). To our server in training's credit, however, she was apologetic and kept us well informed as to why the process was taking so long. She also asked -- before we had finished the first bottle -- if we planned on getting a second bottle so she could have it chilled on time. Very considerate of her!My husband and I both ordered the prix fixe menu which included an appetizer, salad or soup, entree, and dessert for $55. On the positive side, the portions were more than generous. We started with the crab cake which ended up being a full sized crab cake (we're from Maryland and know the good stuff) and it was delicious! My brie cheese appetizer was okay, but burnt on the top. My ceasar salad was underwhelming and desperately needed more dressing while my husband enjoyed his roasted vegetable salad which had a melt-in-your-mouth goat cheese on it. My entree was a lamb shank, which was on the bone and, again, HUGE! It was accompanied by a "risotto" which was really more like a cheesy rice. The lamb shank needed salt so badly...it was in a rich sauce that had no flavor, despite its good looks. There was no salt on the table so I had to wait for a waitress to appear to ask for some, and even then, it (disappointingly) did not help the flavor much. My husband's filet and potato also needed salt and had a tired presentation. We took our cheesecake's to go and enjoyed them -- they seemed to be homemade! Overall, we would not return as we know for the price we paid, we could get a lot more quality elsewhere.Thank you for your review. We have an extensive wine cellar with 6,000 bottles of wine as we have one of the few "Best Of" award winning wine cellars in Pennsylvania. We keep our cellar at the appropriate temperature and cannot chill all of our white wines as it would be impossible. Our Chef takes great care with all of our dishes and are prepared as ordered for each of our guests. Fine dining restaurants do not typically put salt and pepper on the table. As everyone has different tastes, chefs prepare dishes to their taste and if salt and pepper are needed by any guest we are more than happy to accommodate.

We had a terrific server, Claudia, and a mediocre dinner at this restaurant. We chose the Italian Philly Cheesesteak. It was sitting in watery marinara sauce. The sauce was entirely too sweet. Not a marinara sauce at all. The bottom of the sandwich bread was too wet to pick up. This experience would have been rated one star if not for the efficient, friendly, and courteous attitude of our server.

Its not a bad place to eat. I ate here twice since I was staying at the nearby Best Western and its a short distance. In the first meal, I had their fish and chip and I thought the fish lack texture and flavor. The fish and chip was also undercooked a bit. In my second visit, I had their salmon and it was actually quite good. I would have given one more star but their beer was bit average. Their wheat beer was really waterly and lacking full bodied taste. In fact, I regret to say that it was probably one of the worst I ever tasted, I couldn't even finished my pint. My friend who had their mountain lager actually liked it. Maybe it was just their wheat beer that sucks. The service was bit inconsistence, good, slow, average and all that, you can circle it all.

1863 Restaurant is a "family-friendly", unique, casual dining restaurant that offers a wide range of appetizers, steaks, salads, sandwiches and desserts plus a few playful twists on old classics. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Menu favorites includ
while at the wyndham for a conference, we decided to try the 1863 Restaurant rather than drive somewhere. I ordered the Prime Rib with mac n cheese. Two colleagues ordered the turkey pot pie. My Prime Rib was ok but had some grissle running through it and had, frankly, a lot of fat on it (more than most prime rib). The mac n cheese was good. Both my colleagues said their turkey pot pie was good. Service was excellent but this place is SLOW. When we sat down at 5:30 pm there were two other tables with guests. We got our meals at 6:10 pm. That's an hour and ten minutes from seating until service of food. None of us had appetizers or salads or anything. We were served a basket of rolls (rolls were all different and had rosemary baked into them--not my favorite) but nothing else and it still took over an hour to get food. This is not acceptable. While the food was good, I probably wouldn't go back unless staying in the hotel.

Looking for a place close to our hotel with good beer. This place more than exceeded expectations. Even though they are a distillery, they had a nice beer selection. The food was interesting, tasty and fresh. They have a garden and tend to use local establishments for bread, coffee, etc. We were quite pleased with the quality of food and service. It's excellent find for a tourist town. We would definitely return.

Typical-looking bar and grill joint but the food was not typical. Â Very good prices and great selection of burgers, sandwiches, and wings. Â I ordered 6 wings with bourbon BBQ sauce and they were just decent, but not outstanding by any means. The chili was surprisingly excellent, as I find it difficult to find really good chili. Â Perfect blend of heat and sweet with generous meat and ingredients. The crab cake sandwich was just average with a good amount of crab meat but it was lacking in flavor. Â The sweet potato fries were wonderful, though, very crisp and tasty, not greasy at all. Overall, we were very impressed for a place with a small bar atmosphere to have food decent enough to want to make a return visit.

A walk back in history in a very warm, atmospheric setting--definitely one of my favorites. The food is thoroughly amazing and authentic. The decor, dishes, and hospitality is true to the beginning of the Colonial era. Service is always nothing less than perfection. There was a significant wait so plan ahead allowing extra time. You can always have a cocktail and snuggle up by one of the cozy fireplaces with your guests while waiting. It is absolutely worth it. All of the dishes are two-thumbs up! If you're coming with a large group it is best to make a reservation. It is a rather small place downstairs and can get a bit crowded. Event hall and lodging are upstairs which I also highly recommend. Again, the servers are well trained and you will want for nothing. They keep on top of everything in their period clothing that makes it even more special.

The Building That Hunt's Battlefield Fries And Cafe' Is In, Is An Old House That Familys Once Lived In. The House At 61 Steinwehr Ave Was Not Here Yet During The Civil War Battle Of Gettysburg, But Was Build About 1900, Yes It Is Small Inside, But We Make
We visited for lunch. Small inside with a fee tables with veteran hats all over the walls. Our waitress was very kind and provided great service. We had the cheesesteaks with fries. Excellent choice. The bread was soft and the meat was thin and cooked well. The fries are hand cut and delicious. We all 3 shared the Medium fries. They also had fresh lemonade. Frothy and tangy. Finished was a scoop.of ice cream Total for 4 was $ 49.

Step through the door of one of Gettysburg's culinary treasures and be drawn in by the amazing aroma wafting from the open kitchen. A cozy setting within an updated former diner, guests have their pick of small tables or communal dining. The new American
Had a love,y dinner here a couple of weeks ago. The side dishes are quite good and shareable. I enjoyed the Brussels sprouts and the man-n-cheese. My daughter had the Caesarâs salad with chicken which was quite good. The place is quite small and gets crowded during the weekends...
