Things to do in El Jadida
I went here with a friend last week. It's about a kilometer down the road from the La Belle Vie complex on the same road so it might be handy for a quick brunch after shopping. However, that only goes for people who can eat gluten. There was absolutely nothing on the menu that I could eat apart from salads and one of these had croutons in the ingredients. They were already made up, sitting in the display counter and looked incredibly unappetising. There were the salad with croutons as mentioned above and a salad with halal (non-pork) mortadella, which latter is just about the most ghastly food product ever to have been invented. I declined to order for myself and asked my friend if I could pick at his meal and he agreed. He got a breaded chicken roll with sauce and some salad in it. It came accompanied by chips. I had a few chips and picked off the breadcrumbs on part of the chicken so that I could have a bite. It was perfectly acceptable taste wise. The premises are spanking new and clean and airy. The products are sold on an a la carte basis or as meal deals with free soft drinks. Prices are pitched between 20 to 50 dirhams. I'm sure this venture will do well but it isn't a place for me. It shouts modernity but takes no account of recent food trends or food sensitivities. I shan't be coming back, of course, but I'm sure that plenty will.

I went here on the first day of opening with a Moroccan friend. It's taken a couple of weeks for the establishment to get listed. It's new, so it's looking good. Additionally, it has been built and furnished in what I assume is a new style which, although it has to be standardised worldwide, doesn't look as terrible as the previous incarnations. The food was, well, McDonald's! The same stuff that you'd find anywhere in the world, some of it adapted somewhat to local tastes. The reason I am giving the place a four is the view. They have certainly chosen a spectacular position on the extended beach looking out over the bay and the waves. The restaurant has been built on an elevated position to allow good views from the terrace. The whole area is slated to become a holiday village with shops, restaurants, chalets and hotels which probably explains why they built here rather than in town. However, I cannot imagine that the residents of the exceedingly expensive gated community next door are happy with their new neighbours. There are children's facilities and although it is not yet open, there will be a drive through.I've been there once and I doubt I shall return unless I am nagged and nagged at by my far more enthusiastic friend. That's just me though. I hadn't been to a McD for years before this visit!
Best Grill food near El Jadida, Doukkala-Abda Region, Morocco
Located in the Mazagan Beach Resort, La Cave is open Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat & Sun. The atmosphere at La Cave is quaint and romantic, with candle lit tables and lots of wine decor. Service was a bit off on our night, hence my 4 star rating. However, based on optics and food, it really is more of a 5 star. For mains we had the salmon, served with ratatouille, and the rib eye steak served with mashed potatoes. The steak was not a traditional steak, but more shredded - none-the-less it was perfectly prepared and delicious. The salmon was also perfectly done and the ratatouille was phenomenal. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse - out of this world delicious!La Cave is a nice dining option at Mazagan - bon appetit!
