Find out what American restaurants to try in Cullowhee. Cullowhee /ˈkʌləhwiː/ is a census-designated place (CDP) in Jackson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,428 as of the 2010 census. The area known as Cullowhee has Western Carolina University, part of the UNC System, and the village/town of Forest Hills within its area. The Jackson County Recreation Department and the Jackson County Airport are also located in the Cullowhee area. The name of the town was long thought to mean "Valley of the Lillies," but is actually derived from part of the Cherokee phrase "joolth-cullah-wee" which translates as "Judacullah's Place." Judacullah, a giant warrior and hunter who the Cherokee believe lived in the area, is an important figure in their religion and culture.

We had passed by this restaurant several times over the years but never stopped because parking lot was always crowded. On this visit to the area, we went for an early dinner on Sunday evening, and we are glad we did. Excellent food and service. And the fried Oreos were to die for. Enough to share 3 ways! We will definitely return and also recommend for others visiting in the area.

From certified black angus handcut steaks, to fresh North Carolina seafood, to vegetarian tofu stir-fry, to pasta salad ala greque, Lulu's on Main is known for its out-of-the-ordinary eclectic fare, great service, and consistency, provided in an edgy, ret
Cute little place with a lovely outdoor patio in the back and dogs are welcome. Lunch was good but nothing special. Fresh salads, and a different small plate (which was very generous) of grilled potbelly mushrooms. Gorgonzola salad dressing was disappointing, however... Very runny and not enough zing.

We decided to try Kostas Family Restuarant while passing through Dillsboro. What a find! Large portions, shrimp plate had 13 big shrimp with fries and slaw, chicken ceasar pita was so big I couldn't finish it, fish and chips were plentiful too. Prices were reasonable and we will be back when traveling that way again.

We showed up with a group of 8 for dinner approximately 2 hours prior to closing and were turned away due to us having a large group. I could understand having a wait, but to turn away business is not a good way to run your business. We are sorry you did not have the opportunity to dine with us. Unfortunately, on busy nights when our reservations are fully booked we have no choice but to stop seating, We strive to be the #1 steakhouse in the North Carolina Mountains. How nice to finally have a national chain in central Cullowhee! It's within walking distance of every dorm and offers sit down and take out. The 2 for 22 is a good deal. I like the chicken fajita option, which has more food than i can eat. The child's menu is creative and clever. They can check off their own selections. Children's drinks are free.

Haywood Smokehouse knows barbecue! We are proud to serve the best Texas-style barbecue outside of Texas. Not a boast, just the truth! Our premium specialty meats; fresh, house-made sausages, house-made sauces and fall-off-the-bone ribs and smoked brisket
Wow! This has become my favorite BBQ in Western NC! With so many sauces to choose from, there is a taste that everyone will love. Delicious collard greens as well! Oh and did I mention the desserts, especially the banana pudding! If you are in the area, donât miss this place!
This is located in the University Center at Western Carolina University. It's just a grab and go kind of place with limited selections, not a full menu. Food tastes like what you'd expect.

Asheville has nothing on this place. We thoroughly enjoyed a few local brews in the afternoon on an outside covered deck overlooking a small river. The bartender was helpful in steering us to something she thought that we would like. Very laid back place. Parking is not good. NOTE: I rated the food excellent even though there is none since Tripadvisor would not have allowed a rating but do not serve food at this establishment. There is an adjoining food truck (Cosmic) where you can get short orders and a pizza place in the same building.
Mini Donut Place offers over 18 flavors of hot fresh made to order mini donuts. We also have specialty sandwiches like our redneck grilled cheese and a full liquor and beer menu to wash it all down.
Stopped here on the way out of town. We tried glazed, powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, and salted caramel. All were delicious! Note, four pack isnât enough. We went back for more.
