We stopped for gas on our road-trip and right next door was this little gem. The owner was wonderful, the food was good and it was a pleasant stop. We split a delicious double cheeseburger, brisket sandwich, onion rings and sweet potato fries because we wanted to try a little of everything. The fries came with real maple syrup to dip in from another local business. The meat is smoked right on the premises.

While traveling thru Nebraska, got hungry and stopped in Crawford. Its like stepping back in time for someone living in California. It felt like Mayberry from the TV show Andy Griffith. Picked the Ranch House for Dinner and could not have chosen any better. Great food, good prices and nice local service from the owners. I had a huge steak, my son had a huge hamburger and my daughter had the house special Chicken Fried Steak and it too was huge and home cooked.Service was good and there was a large bar. Had an enjoyable meal, friendly conversation with the owners and felt like I was one of the family
We were staying at the High Plains Homestead for the weekend and ate at the Sand Creek Cookhouse on Friday and Saturday night. We had a very good rib eye dinner on Friday night and we were hoping for prime rib on Saturday but they didn't have enough reservations so they had to cancel it. (Call ahead) We had the pork cutlet dinner which was tasty and we splurged and had pie. OMG-Peach cream pie-to die for! The new owners are young couple and they are trying hard. They still have a few kinks to work out but the Homestead is a cool place to visit and the atmosphere was great(We sat outside) so no complaints from us plus they are a good place for a bite to eat if you are visiting the Hudson-Meng Bison site.

This is a restaurant/antique store/used bookstore/Health food outlet. The food is served right in the antique shop and you can browse through the items while waiting for the food. And that is something you will do a lot of... W-A-I-T. The menu is whatever they are serving that day, which made us think it might show up fairly quicly. But it was very slow to arrive. When it di, it was good, but there wasn't much of it for the price. Maybe better as an antique mall than as a restaurant, I think.
