Just had dinner there three nights ago before they close for the season. Beautifully prepared steaks for two of us and a special seafood pasta for another. We had the scrumptious hot artichoke and cheese appetizer served with toasted baguette slice to start.... can't seem to avoid having this starter it is so delicious ! Even the wine selection is more than adequate and we always find exactly what we want.

Been several years since we're visited, but it was exactly like every time over the decades. We enjoy Chef John's cooking. He's originally from Philly, and his skills lean to the Ital-Amer saucy, comfort side. His wife is charge of the FOH, and is constantly on the move. She's all business, but I can always get her to chuckle. They are hard working, and very dedicated to their establishment. While we've enjoyed many menu items, Chef does two of our favorite dishes in the metro: Wife--Chicken Ziti Primavera; Your's truly--Veal Romana. The chicken dish has tons of chicken/veggies/ziti, in a very garlic-y cream sauce. The veal dish is a combo of veal & eggplant parm with prosciutto, in a very galic-y red sauce. See a pattern here? Chef likes his garlic, and obviously, so do we.Sure it's a bit dark, a bit cramped, and a bit over the top campy with the faux-italiano decor, but for nearly two decades we've never had a bad meal here, and always very comfortable with the dining experience. They do just fine in Cheney. Omnes optimis, Lenny's...

Passing through Cheney and looking for lunch. Saw the Marketplace sign and thought another sandwich shop. Totally wrong. A great sandwich shop and plenty more too. I had the artisan grilled cheese with pesto. My sweetheart had the BBQ sandwich. Both five-star. Local farm to table. Local foods for sale too. Checking out the breakfast this weekend. Service can be slow.
Beautiful drive, great seasonal waterfront location, a little hick-ish (which I like), usually hearty food, and totally a place where you'd better be a regular. We live 15 miles away in town, and there is a reason why we only come here maybe once every two years. If you are not in with the in crowd, you will notice. What I mean by the 'in' crowd, is the original, settler farmer families that live in Cheney, and most of them own all of the downtown commerce as far as commercial property leasing is concerned. The staff will fawn over them as they disregard you for quite the noticeable amount of time, and then come over uncomfortably late in recognition of your needs, and smooth it all over by sheepishly saying, 'sorry.' Tonite was pretty much the same as it has always been over the years. Food was not sub-par, but here are a few things for the staff to take away: the fish and chips basket was industrial whitefish and embarrassing for the price (see picture); and, I'm not entirely sure there was real Cougar Gold cheese on the Cougar Burger. I could be wrong, but it's just my gut feeling/taste buds talking to me. I've had CG many times before. With everything else I've commented on in this essay, two stars from me should not be a surprise. I don't recommend folks from Spokane making the 35+ mile journey to come here. Well, maybe for lunch, before the aristocracy arrives at dinner time, and hopefully they'll use ingredients they advertise on their products...
