Calexico is about 122 miles (196 km) east of San Diego and 62 miles (100 km) west of Yuma, Arizona. The name of the city is a portmanteau of California and Mexico, which, like that of its adjacent sister city of Mexicali, emphasizes its identity as a border city.

This was a business trip where I stopped in for a quick club sandwich dinner like I have had in several states and many Applebeeâs. The Kitchen staff knocked it out of the park!! Fast, hot, nicely presented and great flavors. My upgrade onion rings were perfect!! Unfortunately, the dining experience was not supported by similarly dedicated wait staff. The waitress did not know the wine prices, (Applebeeâs Corporate choice to leave them off the menu is another source of ire...), did not even know what the two wines I asked about were, but she did go ask. Following my meal, I stacked my empty dishes and flatware on the edge of the table and waited 15 minutes (yes, I timed it) for a follow-up contact by the wait staff. Nothing... I finally stopped a waitress (not mine) to ask for a bill. Any opportunity for dessert had long since dissolved. Will I eat here again? Absolutely!! Will the wait staff step up and really support the Kitchen staff? Only time will tell...

Don't know how it compares to other Denny's but I'd say it holds its own. We had a couple of salads for dinner and both were fresh and made from an interesting selection of leaves. Service prompt and friendly. And I think this is unusual, isn't it - it serves liquor: a small range of bottled beers and a couple of wines in individual airline-style screwtops.

Tasty but parsimonious. Put another way, a bit overpriced for the amount that you receive, in my admittedly humble opinion. The prices are just under that of a balanced full course meal at a regular sit-down restaurant. If it wasn't for the amount of bread, a person might feel hungry after eating at Subway. I do like the fact that employees handling food wear disposable gloves. Considering the epidemic of food born diseases, i wish all food handlers everywhere did so but one fast-food chain told me that it wasn't required by the health department therefore they were not using this practice. Here is the freemarket private sector waiting to be forced by regulation to do what is clearly in their customer's interest. This is why we are being suffocated by big government and over regulation.

This was first my trip to Calexico. It was good to see a familiar place like KFC. The people were friendly and patient. The place nice and clean. I took my food back to my cool hotel room, there were lots of napkins and the condiments I requested. When you're in the mood for chicken, there's nothing like KFC.
