This place doesn’t need any help with more business so I’m sure the locals are going to be unhappy that I am reviewing Matus Pit BBQ. It’s cooked by a pit master with Czech heritage (and can still speak it) Whoever heard of BBQ for breakfast but the place was packed on a Saturday morning. Unless you’re taking it home to eat later, that is what you’ll need to do (so enjoy). There is a small eatin' room inside if you are not from around here. This place is only open on weekend mornings. The BBQ is pretty much sold out by 11:00 AM!!! You can call ahead and reserve some before arriving, like my friend did for us.The ribs are the best option but the huge sausages are noteworthy also. The brisket and chicken were nice also. BBQ is a very personal food in Texas and some people might like this or that better. Usually when it is mainly by locals, for locals, that is a good place to try. Matus Pit BBQ fits this description, so if you’re up early on a weekend and near Caldwell, Texas, stop in and enjoy.

Random stop for a burger and found Papa G's. Great tasting burger-had the bacon cheese burger-with a nice smoky flavor. Restaurant is part of a station, convenience store see up. Wanted to try the pecan pie but was unable to get a piece. Would have given a five rating but found it a little overcooked for my personal taste.

This is a tiny place. Walk up to order and quick service. Excellent BBQ. Nothing fancy, but friendly staff (mostly high school kids) and a good meal for a fair price. Take home is great.

Here is a great restaurant in a lovely small town serving fantastically good food with vary large portions at a reasonable price. My wife & I had the good fortune to be staying in Caldwell and this restaurant was highly recommended by locals. Wife had the fried catfish were very large whole fillets and were perfectly fried with a delicious batter. 3 large fillets with fries and salad for only $10.99. I had the T-Bone 14 oz. steak that was perfectly cook, seasoned and extremely tender, with 3 grilled shrimp, fried potatoes and salad for only $22.99. The restaurant is attractive, inviting with nice tables and booths. There is a well stocked bar. They also have daily specials at lunch and specials in the evenings. Hours are 11 am to 9 pm. Our waitress, Chelsey was efficient, courteous, helpful and attentive to our every needs. Chelsey is the best waitress we have ever had serve us. She will go a long way in life. Ask for her when you enter, you will be glad you did if she is working then. The food was so good we tried it a second time as a takeout and service was fast, efficient and great as the first time. We will be back to eat here when in the area again on our travels.Restaurant is good for couples, family, friends, business and solo.
