The Lilac Inn is a nine-room romantic country inn specializing in custom weddings and events. We cater to a variety of dietary preferences, cultural needs, and tastes. We truly enjoy being creative in the kitchen. Our restaurant is NOT open to the public,
I live in this town, and generally we find ourselves leaving Vermont, or at least Brandon for entertainment/travel/experiences, whatever you want to say. However, in September of 2013, I attended the wedding of my son at the Lilac Inn. My wife and I own a large property on Lake Dunmore, just north of the Town of Brandon, where we live in the warmer months, May through early October and then we move into town, to our winter house, I guess you would call it. So, Ben, our son and Kaitlyn, his wife had what I guess you would call a destination wedding. We had 50+ people, family, friends and their friends stay out at the lake in the various rustic cabins on the property. We hosted the rehearsal dinner on Friday evening, at the lake. Shelly and Doug Sawyer hosted the wedding the next day, and what a host couple. The actual ceremony was outside in a lovely garden, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the terrace followed by wonderful dinner in the main room with dinner and dancing to end the evening with a live band. I know this was all planned by the kids and her parents, but the execution and the attention to detail, by Shelley and Doug was amazing. In my book, it was a perfect event. Several people stayed at the Inn that night, to then come to the lake for a pancake breakfast and a day of hiking, sailing, and just relaxing with a late lunch by our chef. The Lilac Inn under the guiding hand of Shelley and Doug is THE BEST thing in Brandon. Hands down

I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for good food at a reasonable price in a pleasant setting, conveniently located near stores and art galleries in downtown Brandon. A couple of friends and i stopped in at this country-style lunchette around 12:30 on a Monday. My friends both had the Reuben sandwich. The corned beef was lean, as they had been assured. I had a veggie burger with avocado, lettuce, sliced tomato, and honey-mustard dressing on a brioche roll with shoestring cut sweet potato fries on the sides. Also excellent. Heads up if you are in a rush: Even though we were one of only 4 parties in the eatery, our order took 20 minutes to arrive. A bit of a wait, but worth it.

I have been golfing here for over 30 years on my annual "relative"visits to Brandon. Once a 9 hole course, the new nine opened several years ago provides a test for any golfer in a hilly pastoral setting that rivals many private courses. The groundskeeping crew have done a fantastic job over the years producing great fairways and greens that read true. The entire golf course staff are small town friendly which makes this a must play course if you are in central Vermont.Their bloody marys are among the best should you be in the mood. Choose one of several Vermont beers on tap or any selection from their small bar to accompany your lunch. Neshobe's burgers and sandwiches rival any lunch place. On my recent visits I had the usual burger with "homemade, handcut french fries and after another round ordered the recommended daily special, a grilled pastrami, peppers & onion sandwich with melted swiss served on a toasted hoagie roll. On weekends they also serve breakfast.
