The food at Popo's is down-home, Southern comfort food - lots of fried foods (all delicious), homemade breads, nice corn dish that is a house favorite. A nice full bar and of all places I've tried, they have the best lemon drop martinis! Reasonably priced, great service. A fun place to go for nostalgia and great food.

Our restaurant specializes in top quality BBQ and a large selection of homemade side dishes. Dine-in, take-out, or drive-thru, anyway you like it, you will always feel at home. Need Catering? We will always do our best to accommodate you next big event.
Checked Trip Advisor for a local BBQ joint while visiting Boerne from Cincinnati; Fritze's had good reviews. We both ordered a pulled pork plate with two sides; sweet slaw and creamed corn for me, hash browns and pinto beans for my wife. The pulled pork had good flavor, but the sauce was disappointing; too thin and without much flavor. No tang whatsoever. The sides were all tasty, but nothing exceptional. The counter staff were very friendly, and worked quickly to serve us. We'll look for another place to try, next time.

Housed in the original 1900 Welfare General Store & Post office. Providing catered events for 20 to 100. By Appointment Only.
Our out of town company has always enjoyed going to this once wonderful, off the beaten path, enclave, so we headed out with great expectations, as we also love "The Welfare" and were very excited, as well.. Sadly, our evening was a great disappointment from the food to the service to the ambiance, or lack thereof. Having dined here many, many times over the past years, this turn of events made this even more frustrating, as we thought we knew what to expect. First of all, do NOT sit in the front room, unless it is all that is available, as it is very depressing and dark, and appears to be "no man's land" for the wait staff. When we arrived there were many cars in the front and we were told that there was large "wedding dinner out back", so, we unknowingly, took the first table offered, not realizing there were many better spots readily open, (note: we had made reservations many days in advance, so the arrival of our small party of 4 should not have been a "surprise, hopefully we can service you moment") . Moving on, we ordered the Holstein schnitzel, the Fredericksburg chicken, and two Shepherds pies, along with wine & beers. Strangely, the schnitzel and chicken were served approximately10 minutes or more before the Shepherds pies. Very unprofessional, as we were not warned by the waitress that we would have such a wait between entrees, therefore, we held off eating for at least 5 minutes while our dinners were cooling on the plates. Finally she showed back up and served the Shepherds Pies with the remark "sorry about that.. . . . . ",; we were not sure if she was sorry that the guys had been waiting, or, that the lady's food had become cold while waiting for the rest of the food to be served, or, sorry she never came back to explain there was a delay, or, just sorry in general that we were sitting there and she was serving us. My schnitzel dish, which I have ordered numerous times, was good, but not up to their standards as I found it very dry; the Fredericksburg chicken arrived unimpressively displayed and bland and slightly curdled; and, the Shepherds pies were, sadly, barely edible and certainly not recommended. Unfortunately, a restaurant is only as good as your last meal, and, this was definitely a "no return" event; a long drive for bad results.

A place to kick back, meet your neighbors in a family friendly atmosphere, while enjoying house brewed beer, eating fresh pub food.
So, I have been sitting on this review for a few months wanting to be fair and not react in the moment. We visited Cibolo Creek Brewing Co. in April and it is August now.We were in the Texas Hill Country for spring break and wanted to take in some local music while we were there. Texas Swing isn't my thing; but it is local and unique so we picked out a performance by Big Cedar Fever scheduled to take place at the Cibolo Creek Brewing Co. We were staying over an hour away but in a previous stop in Boerne saw the brewery and it looked nice. So we planned to go back to see the band. That afternoon the weather started looking a bit dicey. The weather channel said there would be storms in the area but didn't predict them in the Boerne area until around midnight. I checked the Cibolo Creek Website - no mention of any impact. Called and the person I talked to thought the show was a go. So we hopped in the vehicle and set out. When we arrived we were informed that due to the weather the show had been canceled. Well if the show had been slated to last until 10 or 11 then I might have been able to see the reasoning; but it was to have been over much sooner - 8:30 I think. Still, maybe the band themselves canceled who knows - I didn't ask. And this is where the real problem hit. After the show was canceled apparently the owner or manager sent home a huge portion of their staff (or they were just woefully understaffed in the first place). Because the crowds showed up to see the band that wasn't going to perform. We checked in at the hostess stand and were told we could sit right away but the kitchen was waaay backed up and food would probably take an hour to come out.I was for leaving but was outvoted by companions. So we sat down to have a Cibolo creek beer. Wrong move number 1. Their beer is average. My friend with a home brewing kit has done as well several times. The beer at the Dodging Duck, just down the street is FAR better- BTW.We ordered an appetizer thinking it would come out before the food as a "tide me over". It did - by like 2 minutes. I admit to no longer remembering what we ordered but none of it impressed me at all and in fact at the time I remembered thinking - ugh; we drove an hour then waited nearly an hour for average beer and food!It may have been a combination of bad events - but if I come back to the Texas Hill Country and visit Boerne - and you should it is a really cute town; I will drink at the Dodging Duck and look elsewhere for live music.

We had not been to here in a few years so met friends here for lunch on a Friday. They open at 11 and it gets crowded fairly quickly. We were there at opening so were able to get our order in quickly. They have a large menu posted on two walls as well as a menu at the register. You order and pay and then serve yourself drinks and wait to be called to pick up your order. The quality of the food is consistently good and a large variety of choices with most being "home cooking" style. They do have baked potatoes and salads as well as a veggie plate. So all should find something to satisfy. They also have generous portions but also offer a pony plate for a smaller portion and they do have a kid's menu too. Some of the plates could be shared if you have two light eaters. The salad and baked potato combo was a perfect size for a light lunch and the salad was mixed greens and the potato was baked just right and came with good toppings. The regular hamburger was good but the patty was thin and didn't quite fit the bun.If you don't like french fries with the peeling and not fried crisp, then you best order a different side, but they do give you a good amount of them. For these two meals and two drinks the total was $28 for lunch, which is more than we generally spend for two for lunch. They are popular with the locals and are busy during lunch.

We likely wonât return. The ambiance is great. Service was acceptable. The kidâs chicken tenders and fries was the best item we ordered. I had the Greek salad with shallot dressing. The top of the salad that wasnât soaked in vinegar was great. Then I got down to the bottom of the salad and couldnât even eat it because it was so sour. My husband had the shrimp tacos and he said it was too sweet. He didnât finish his food either, which is unusual. All in all itâs worth stopping by to see if itâs your kind of food but we will not be returning.

The Dodging Duck Brewhaus is located in Boerne, Texas, in the Texas Hill Country. We have an eclectic menu of international and local favorites, from Thai Lettuce Wraps to Chimichurri Grilled Beef Tenderloin to Bratwurst & Sauerkraut. Best of all, we brew
Our luncheon group dined here today. The premises were unpretentious and clean and there was a substantial crowd who certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves. We had a pleasant young waiter who made every effort to provide good service. The green tomato appetizer was delicious. The entrees arrived promptly and were attractive and freshly prepared, ranging from Cobb Salad to Bratwurst to Fish and Chips. Everyone thought their entrees were tasty and substantial. We shared a warm brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream for desert. Highly recommended!

Lounge on the broad, breezy wraparound porch, cocktail in hand. Step into a lovingly restored 19th century dining room to savor contemporary interpretations of Southern heritage foods and classic American dishes. Sit down to a familiar, casual, satisfying
Celebrated wedding anniversaries with another couple and were delightfully surprised with Peggy's! The setting was charming - historic inn, park-like garden and gurgling creek. The dining rooms afforded cordial table conversation with accommodating wait staff. The biggest surprise - at first glance, prices seemed high. However, the delectable menu options came with such ample portions that we shared entrées and sides resulting in a most affordable dinner.

This is one of our go-to restaurants when we want to have a nice meal out. I have an extensive list of allergies and food restrictions and Chef Kevin has never shied away from making me something amazing. He really puts in extra effort and you can tell he enjoys what he does. I really appreciate that he and our favorite server Jason both remember our family, the drinks and foods we like, and always make us feel at home.

As the temperatures were bearable, we decided for a table outside in the garden with a view on the creek as well as the pond. The service was attentive, knowledgeable, and very friendly. Add this to good food and drinks, and we had a very enjoyable dinner experience. We shall be back!
