Reviews on American food in Augusta, Maine, United States. Originally an English trading post on the Kennebec River, Augusta has since grown to be the capital of Maine, and is focused on preserving and celebrating the state’s history. Visit the magnificent Maine State House or Old Fort Western, the oldest surviving wooden fort in the United States. The city is also the home of the Pine Tree State Arboretum, a 224-acre park and botanic garden, with six miles of hiking, biking and cross-country skiing trails, open for free, all year round.

Went there for dinner on a weekend night with family. Was nice, clean and friendly. Menu had nice variety.Bread basket before meal was nice, had variety of corn bread and warmed slice bread.Lighter portion of baked scallops was good size. (liked having the option of lighter options!) Prices were very reasonable.Since went on weekday place was not crowded. Was handicapped accessible and children friendly. Even had a little bakery when entered to perhaps take a treat home! Enough space to park. If in area would stop in again.

We are a casual fine dining restaurant featuring creative upscale food, served in a tasteful, eclectic atmosphere.
Love the location in charming, old, downtown Augusta. Surrounded by authentic blue-collar architecture, parking is limited but if you are patient you will find a spot that is not too long of a walk. Inside Otto's, the decor is unique to the point of almost bizarre or absurd. The color palette is a mix of Memphis movement and late 70's but everything is a little more thrift store than antique. Still, it does have a compelling, charming vibe that is reinforced by solid service and a fairly well-rounded but not sprawling menu. The service is tough to review. We sat with a well-informed and professional bar tender who fully embraced the stereotypical surly Maine demeanor. This style has a predictable charm but it is difficult to say the service is "good" when the overall impression is that they would rather you just leave your money and go back to your own state. Avoid the pretzel, there is no salt.

Long before I visited this area I enjoyed seeing my friend's Facebook posts about this quaint local establishment. A few days ago we reconnected for a delicious Sunday breakfast here. My friend enjoyed her eggs benedict while I gleefully devoured the home-baked French toast with a generous raspberry compote with a side of bacon. Service was rather slow on this busy Sunday, yet always friendly. Slate's has a full bar which neither of us was ready to take advantage of this particular morning, yet it's nice to know it's there. If you want to truly experience this funky little town that is chartered as a "city," experience Slate's.

Our group of 4 golfers went here because it rated higher than the nearby IHOP. It was fun to look at the very concentrated pancake menu. Not a lot of those fancy-schmanzy things they try to do at IHOP. Just big, beautiful pancakes. We also appreciated the option to have authentic Vermont maple syrup. Sure you pay a little more but what a perfect way to dress those big, fluffy pancakes. We knew it would be good when our waitress greeted a couple of older customers by name. If regulars are eating here, it must be good. And it was.

Having reached Augusta around lunchtime and not having been to Riverfront BBQ in a while, we opted for some of summer on a cold wintry day. Riverside BBQ certainly filled the bill this afternoon. Knowing their generous servings and our appetite this day, we opted to share a half-slab of ribs and a quarter chicken, requesting the chicken's portion to be white meat. The entree arrived in short shrift and certainly was sufficient for both of us. Today's sweet potato fries were very crispy on the outside and buttery on the inside; the pork ribs were succulent, but, there was one curious thing about the chicken wing-and-breast. Normally, a quarter of a chicken is served as a leg-and-thigh or wing-and-breast. Today, what constituted a quarter of a bird was missing the distal (back) third of the breast!. Nevertheless, the rib-and-chicken combo at Riverfront was enjoyable.

Like Road House as a rule but what we've discovered at all the Road House we've dined in, they chi chinged us to death. Once our bill was $20 over the price of our meals with taxes. Here comes the Chi Ching.......they charge an extra $1.99 here & there for a topping, a $1.00 extra for drinks on the rocks.etc. So be careful when they ask you if you'd like something added to the dish there's a chi ching to go with it. One waiter was bragging to us how he was their best sales person, this is the one that we spent an extra $20 buckaroonies. Beware, yes means a smaller wallet. I've never had a restaurant charge us extra for every little thing but last night the ice was an extra $1.00, come on...............we decided before we went to make sure not to say yes to any questions the wait staff asked so our bill stayed the same but the ice got us last night. Some don't care but I do........most places tell you there's an extra charge for add ons.....

Was formerly the Bond Brook Pancake House, Mt Vernon Ave, Augusta, ME. Owners had an opportunity to move into a restored, historic building in the heart of the downtown business district. Even managed to preserve a stained-glass storefront-wide window adv
The setting is loaded with classic blue-collar New England History. Located right by the river and in a downtown setting, the parking is limited so look for the parking around back. The service is brisk, professional and somewhat indicative of Maine's surly stand-offish style but it is slightly warmed up here because it is clearly a place for regulars. The Corned Beef hash is seared nicely but bland, the toast is outstanding and so are the breakfast sandwiches which have a homey quality being made with sliced sausage links instead of patties. With all of the skill and experience they have, they should add a bloody Mary or Mimosa for the weekend and think about reaching outside the box with a shakshouka or scotch egg.
