Excellent catfish and nice portion choices. Baked potato was hot, nice sides of cold slaw, tomato relish, onion and best hush puppies around. Fast and good attentive service. The building is not maintained. Old and ugly, but we came for the food as we were driving home from our road trip. Second stop here in the last year. You can get it to go if you aren't there for all you can eat. Good prices.

Applebee's menu features beef, chicken, pork, burgers, pasta and seafood, as well as signature items found only at Applebee's. Pick'Pair lunch combos are popular and Applebee's has Weight Watchers menu choices. Open daily until 2 a.m.
They always have great meal deals with appetizers, main courses and a dessert for a bargain price. Some very good salads and soups. Quality of steaks and inconsistent cooking of them keeps me away from their steaks. Some interesting appetizers like Won Ton Tacos and Pretzel Sticks with a beer, cheese sauce for dipping. Yummy! Help is usually good. Cocktails are usually weak and can be inconsistent.

We stopped here twice during your trip to Athens, TX. We enjoyed our breakfasts. The order can within reasonable time and arrived as ordered. Good hash browns. Eggs cooked to perfection. Wait staff is great and the restaurant is very clean. Looks like a lot of locals heat here too.

A surprisingly upscale but friendly establishment. Delicious food (try the cowboy burger special!) and attentive staff. Plus great views of the water! We enjoyed lunch here after a morning at the Texas Freshwater Fishery Center. There aren't a lot of other eating options around but you need not look - this is a great place to have a meal!

Menu offers hot, classic, club and grilled sandwiches, spuds, soups, salads, starters, sides, desserts, and a kids menu. Open daily.
So I ordered the Corn Beef and Pastrami sandwich....fingers crossed it wasn't grocery store deli meat.....IT WAS!!!!! Hugely over salted and not at all like a real product. I have eaten here before and the food is OK. Fair price and all reasonable. Not REAL DELI food but good grocery level. I will go again but teary eyed and will order what works for that level meat and cheese. So my son ordered the BLTA on Croissant and loved it! Gone! Didn't even see it, only the "this is GREAT" from him!

We went to Old West for lunch on the weekend. At the table, we had burgers, the chicken sandwich, and the fish and shrimp dinner. First, we loved the bean bar with cornbread. There are several types of beans to choose from. The main courses were great - hot and fresh. The onion rings were fantastic, as well as the fried okra. And to top it off the service was fantastic. HIghly recommended!

I have been in Athens for 4 years now. I have grown to LOVE the Railway Cafe, after reviewing it a few years ago. I did not realize how important this establishment was to our little village of Athens, Texas. All the food is prepared fresh daily. Everyday, they have great specials, which usually include a fish grilled atop delicious vegetables. I have even grown to accept the noise level, by eating after noon, if possible. The cafe is usually packed for the lunch crowd with many returning daily, or at least several times a week to eat there. I will usually take anyone who visits me, for lunch here. The young couple who own the Railway Cafe know exactly what they are doing, and they are doing a great job of offering Athens the one and only great place to eat lunch, IMHO. Highly recommended if you are nearby or passing through.
