About as far from the Ethiopian restaurant in Manchester, where I ate this cuisine last, as you can possibly get, although the food is clearly from the same part of the world. In Manchester it was a small, clean 'normal' restaurant, staffed by charming and friendly Ethiopians and was obviously the heart of the Ethiopian community in the city, full of African diners, and others who had just came to have a drink and greet friendsIn FRankfurt it was rather like a Disney 'Africa Experience', and felt uncomfortably post-colonial, although the food was tasty and (as far as I could tell) authentic.Perhaps they have Africans hidden away from sight in the kitchen. You can sit outside and breathe in the fumes of the cars roaring out of the Main Tunnel, or you can sit indoors at tiny tables under wooden and thatched awnings presumably representing village life in the Horn of Africa. The entire front-of-house staff, apart from the barman (who looked east African) are German and were friendly and helpful but I find it hard to believe that there are no locals from the Horn of Africa in Frankfurt who would like to work in the restaurant. Just as I was leaving a party of Gulf Arabs came in with a man who looked Somali but apart from that the diners were entirely white and European.Surely we have come further than this patronising post-colonial exoticism?

This was a first visit and I sat at one of the tables outside. Since I am not familiar with african food I ordered a plate which offers a taste of several dishes, each with a wonderful mix of spices and very tasty indeed, accompanied by injera pancakes which were fantastic and an excellent tool to mop up all the sauces. I desided to try one of the african joujou beers, and pinapple was a great choice. It was served in a wooden bowl which was as nice a detail as the metal plates. The service was very friendly, explained everything, answered all the questions and generally took very good care of me. I highly recommend a visit :-)

A buzzing restaurant with the smell of incredible spices! The waitresses were super friendly, welcoming and helpful. They served us from start to end with a smile on their face. We ordered a dish that was to be shared and it was very yummy. Lots of flavours and different textures. I am very sensitive to spicy food and the waitress made sure to tell me which dishes I should stay clear of. Great restaurant that I would highly recommend!!
