Denmark's largest island is so much more than simply the home of the country's dynamic capital, Copenhagen. Zealand also offers a delightful array of holiday homes and villas, pleasing harbors and sandy beaches, fringed by forests where castles lurk. Major destinations include the UNESCO-designated, Dutch Renaissance-style Kronborg Castle in Helsingor and the Viking attractions, cathedral and music festival of Roskilde. To the south bobs a flotilla of beautiful and relatively untouched islands.

In ZOO, you can meet more than 4,000 amazing animals and travel between continents in a pushcart. Get goosebumps from close encounters with polar bears and see the world from a giraffe’s perspective. Test yourself against different animals at the Zoofari playground, learn lots of wild animal facts and enjoy delicious food. A world to explore awaits. Open 365 days a year.
We had read reviews which suggested the zoo was small but we found it delightful and spent the full day there. The range of animals was excellent and the layout interesting (based around different habitats. The Arctic circle and Australia were particularly good.) We saw pandas, polar bears and giraffes up very close as well as numerous small creatures like prairie dog. The animals all looked well cared for and there were educational panels too. We especially enjoyed seeing baby animals (like the playful polar bear cub and joeys in kangaroo pouches). I just wished I'd had a better camera with me as we were very near the animals and the zoo offers great opportunities for keen photographers or wildlife artists. There were well sign posted feeding times and talks. Talking of feeding, I did find the cafe overpriced. Good quality food but very small portions. Some of the outdoor stalls in the zoo were better value.

National Aquarium Denmark, Den Blå Planet is Northern Europe's largest and most modern aquarium with thousands of animals and seven million liters of water
I visited Den Bla Planet with my sons, 9 and 11 years old. Our transportation and entrance were free with the Copenhagen card, so I can speak only the value I felt in spending our time at Den Bla Planet. It's was very easy to get to from our hotel in Nyhavn with public transportation. We visited in late November, so the weather was of course quite windy, gray, and cold. I was still struck by how beautiful the entire facility is as we approached. Once inside we did find it to be a little smaller than we expected but it still had wonderful exhibits. We really enjoyed the doctor fish nibbling on our fingers and a presentation we caught at the large tank. The boys also really enjoyed laying on the "pier" and watching the rays swim around them.
