Denmark's largest island is so much more than simply the home of the country's dynamic capital, Copenhagen. Zealand also offers a delightful array of holiday homes and villas, pleasing harbors and sandy beaches, fringed by forests where castles lurk. Major destinations include the UNESCO-designated, Dutch Renaissance-style Kronborg Castle in Helsingor and the Viking attractions, cathedral and music festival of Roskilde. To the south bobs a flotilla of beautiful and relatively untouched islands.

Slotsholmen is an islet in central Copenhagen, the site of the first royal castle. While fires destroyed earlier palaces, the glorious Christianborg Slot (built 1907-1928) remains today. It is currently the home of the Danish Parliament, Supreme Court and Prime Minister’s office. There is much to see on Slotsholmen, including Christianborg Slot, the views from its tower, the equestrian statues of Christian IX and Frederick VII, the old stock exchange and Thorvaldsens Museum. Several bridges allow easy access to Slotsholmen. A major destination in Copenhagen.
