What to do and see in Zagreb, Central Croatia: The Best Self-Guided Tours & Rentals

February 5, 2022 Brandee Mangan

Zagreb got its start as two medieval fortress towns atop hills overlooking the Sava River, and was reborn in the Baroque period as center of business, perfectly located on routes connecting Central Europe to the Adriatic Sea. These days, Zagreb is the heart of contemporary Croatia’s culture, art, sports, and academics, but its history is not forgotten. The unique blend of medieval towers, 19th century palaces, open-air markets, and ancient cathedrals, make Zagreb the perfect city to explore.

Have been in touch with Lobagola MotoTours for some time first over ADVrider and later over email. I wanted to buy a motorcycle through them and I could not make up my mind, should I buy one through them and store the bike with them in Europe, ship one of my own bikes from the states or get a good rental deal with them for a longer time window. I got a huge amount of info on their location through conversation with Dooby, but still as I am an "old dude" (63 y) I wasn't sure what to do. After going back and forth for a couple of weeks, I have decided to rent a bike from them for 60 days for quite low daily fee. I got a BMW GS 1200 GS Adventure older model, but very well maintained and with full gear on with three hard cases. Dooby has provided a mapping for 2/3's of my ride. I got a good deal with flights to Frankfurt and then to Zagreb there were 5 flights each day. Totally happy with my decision to first rent as it helped me to taste the location of Lobagola MotoTours and see how they handle their business and clients. I am now in the process of buying a BMW GS 1200 lc through Lobagola MotoTours that I plan to store with them for 2-3 years. Get in touch with Dooby and his team at Lobagola MotoTours, and you will see first hand why the people on ADVrider and Horizons Unlimited are praising on their services. They make this whole process very convenient and easy.

You will experience this, no more or no less, in the most popular oldtimer in this area – Fićek! Fićo is actually the glorious Zastava 750, a car from the '60s. It was originally designed per Italian Fiat. One interesting fact is that the German VW Buba had an influence on Fićo's appearance too. Fićo was until the '80s for Yugoslavia the same as the Trabant for DDR, Spaček for France or Mini Morris for Britain in the '60s. All public services were driving Fićo, while the older generations tried out their first driving experience right in this car.
