Yunotsubo Road is the main shopping road for tourists in Yufuin. It's not far from the train station and bus terminal. You just walk straight out of the train station and jog slightly to the right onto a diagonal street once you cross a small bridge. One of the first stores you'll see on your left is one selling Studio Ghibli merchandise - Totorro, Laputa, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc. As you keep following the road towards the mountains, you'll see lots of different shops and restaurants - some modern, some traditional. Prices are generally reasonable for a tourist area. There is a car museum and a Marc Chagall art museum as you approach the mountains and Lake Kinrin.

Yufuin Showa-kan presents a smorgasbord of reproductions of Showa period streetscapes that are sure to rouse feelings of nostalgia. The nostalgic cars at the entrance are just one example. Inside, barber shops, camera stores, electronic goods, doctor’s clinics, tiny bars, post offices, schools, public bath houses, cheap candy stores, and domestic interiors, such as the kitchens and lounge rooms of the time, are all waiting to take you on a time slip to the Showa 30s

Such a beautiful setting for this lovely little museum by the lake. Some of Chagall’s best paintings with just enough content for a short visit. Shame it seemed to be overlooked by many visitors.
