Cathedral de Merida

Right in the main plaza, you'll find this beautiful cathedral, which is claimed to be the 1st built in the Americas. Magnificent inside. I walked in when there was a mass happening - a great experience too. Sometimes, they have a light show that fills the square with people.

Convento de San Antonio de Padua

Reviewed By Ali921 - Edinburgh, United Kingdom

It dominates the town. Nice to walk around the buildings although there is not a great deal to see. It's more famous for the visit by Pope John Paul II when he "crowned" the statue of the Virgin. It's next to the main plaza. We enjoyed it because it was not overcrowded by other tourists.

Templo y Ex Convento de Santiago Domingo

Worth the short drive to Uayma just to see this church. Especially if you love design and architecture (+churches) of Mexico. The SPATIAL quality the floral designs are unique and I enjoyed photographing them all inside and out. If the history of this church was available - I didn't see it! Now I'm doing some research on how it happened. Very quiet peaceful town - just a few steps from main part of Uayma
