Hidden gems of Yucatan, such as Tulum, Akumal, Chetumal, Chichen Itza and Merida, offer an authentic taste of Mexico. Akumal and more Caribbean-style Chetumal, near the Belize border, deliver delectable white-sand beaches and great snorkelling. Merida, Chichen Itza and Tulum, with their ancient ruins, offer a passage into the Yucatanâs native history. Nature lovers can jungle trek and swim in subterranean sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water. Bike around the ruins and hop between towns in colectivo vans.

10/10 I would do this trip again. My advice would be to go for the 4 hour tour over the 2 hour version because it goes by very quickly. Everyone is unbelievably kind and you taken care of the entire time. If you are looking for a snorkeling trip where you don't have to plan anything, this is the one for you.

Highly, highly recommend Yucatan Excursions ! Polo is the best tour guide and I plan to call him when we are back in Yucatan. These tours were definitely the highlights of our trip!! Polo speaks excellent English, and is a wealth of information about the region. We planned two tours with Polo, and here is a summary of each.... Tour 1: We arranged to visit Uxmal, Chocolate museum, Hacienda and Cenote. We departed early morning for Uxmal and had an early tour which was wonderful— cool weather and pretty much had the ruins to ourselves. We debated about going to the chocolate museum and thankfully went. Again, we started early and had much of the park to ourselves- we fed the spider monkeys, had a mayan ritual performance that was dedicated to us, saw beautiful jaguars, and bad a traditional chocolate tasting- Polo knew the ins and outs. We then went to the Hacienda and enjoyed a private lunch. After lunch, Polo arranged for a tour of the hacienda and accompanied us for translation. We concluded our day with a trip to a off the beaten path cenote. Polo also arranged to take pictures of us in the centoe, and introduced us to local Mexican refreshments. We had an amazing day - thank you, Polo. Tour 2 - We had such a nice time with Polo that we asked if he would be open to taking us from Merida to Tulum with sightseeing along the way. We were thrilled that he agreed, and our day included: visit to the yellow city of Ixmal (including visit for breakfast at local market and visit to local ruins), El Bakal ruins, tequila tasting and tour in Mayapan, private lunch and tour around Valladolid, and then a cool off at an incredible cenote off the beaten path. Polo was very flexible, trustworthy and accommodating. We had such a great time on both tours with Polo, and I don’t think we would have had such a great time without our tours with Polo. In summary, I would highly recommend Yucatan excursions to anyone in Merida or the Yucatan region looking for an authentic Mexican experience!

Meat-stuffed empanadas, shrimp tacos and sweet Mexican pastries are on the menu for this 3-hour culinary tour of Cozumel. Located off the coast of Playa del Carmen, the island is actually closer to Cuba than it is the Mexican capital, giving its cuisine some Caribbean flair. Get a taste of it with the help of a savvy guide who leads you to five local hotspots for samples of classic Yucatecan food, cerveza and agua fresca. Round-trip transportation from downtown is included on this small-group tour, limited to 12 people.
Inclusions: Food tastings at 5 locations, Drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), Transport by air-conditioned minivan
Exclusions: Hotel pickup and drop-off, Gratuities
My sister, cousin and I went to Josefinas home for this excursion while on our cruise. It was the most fun and we enjoyed learning how to make tortillas, sauces, black beans and much more. Then we got to eat everything. Yummy!!! It is located on trip advisor. Not a cruise excursion. Make sure when booking this that she only takes 8-10 people. Great day!!

A definite must do. Ended up being a private tour with just my husband and our guide Coco. Coco was an excellent guide- he was so knowledgeable about not only the food but the culture. The best part of traveling is learning the food and culture of where you are visiting and getting out of our comfort zone's at the resort- this tour is a great way to do that. All the food was delicious and we learned so much- about mole, the fruits and vegetables, saw some great art and learned how Playa Del Carmen has changed. Best was the tacos at Chicharroneria Teresita- just a great explosion of flavors and textures. Take this tour- you will be happy you did

DO NOT LEAVE MERIDA WITHOUT DOING THIS COOKING CLASS! I've traversed the globe as a travel writer and freelance journalist, and, well, we all know how that stopped in 2020. Craving a little travel, I took a small jaunt to Merida, as it's just a two-hour non-stop flight from Miami, and I read that Merida citizens take Covid seriously, wear masks, take everyone's temperatures when entering stores, sanitize shops, etc. I can confirm this is all true. We booked this cooking class not knowing what to expect and I AM SO GLAD WE DID. Alejandro rounded the corner and met us at an open-air plaza, mask-on, and explained how the day would run -- first a visit to markets to select all the ingredients for the cooking class, then an Uber ride (two ubers to safely accommodate four of us) to a local woman's house for the class. ALL OF IT was BEYOND FUN to have a guide like Alejandro to lead us through market selections, explaining local ingredients (spices, vegetables, tortillas, etc), where they were sourced, how they were used, the history of local dishes, how they became popular - he is a fountain of information. The spice sellers explained spices we've never seen, how/where they're grown, how they're used and in what dishes. Everyone takes their time. Alejandro's English is perfect, so if you prefer English to Spanish, he's your man. The woman in whose house we cooked opened up her home as if we were long-lost relatives. Under her tutelage, we happily cut, chopped, mixed and blended our way to the most delicious lunch around a beautiful table with such camaraderie, anyone who has missed family dinners during the pandemic will feel an overwhelming sense of joy and companionship. This is a magical day, as you walk El Centro in Merida to a couple of markets, select vegetables and spices, and finally, cook at a local's house, all under the congenial guidance of the exuberant guide, Alejandro, who clearly loves what he does. Seriously, don't leave Merida without experiencing this class. You're enriching your heart and your palate, helping the local economy, making indelible memories, and gaining insight into local cuisine you likely otherwise wouldn't. Oh - and BONUS -- Alejandro emails you a PHENOMENAL RECIPE BOOK after the class so you can purchase spices before you leave and continue the fun at home. Truly, this is one of the best experiential tours I've taken in a long time.

We had a fantastic time touring the local market and multiple authentic restaurants. No Señor Frog’s or Cabo Wabo to be seen! We had mouth-watering quesadillas, tacos, pozole, delicious fruit we had never tasted before and the best ice cream I’ve had in ages. Xantal was a phenomenal guide!
