What to do and see in Yosemite National Park, Yosemite National Park: The Best Walking Tours

March 16, 2022 Myesha Cogley

Tucked into the mountains of California, Yosemite National Park is renowned for its granite cliffs and waterfalls. Half Dome and El Capitan are two of the formations made famous by photographer Ansel Adams. The valley is open year-round for camping, hiking, and climbing. Traffic is congested during peak season and park rangers encourage visitors to use the free shuttle system. For upscale visits, the Ahwahnee Hotel, built in 1927, is chic and luxurious.

Much like in the summer, the Yosemite Valley Floor offers hours of exploration within the more level and easier accessible areas of the Yosemite Valley. In addition to providing you with natural and geological history, this tour will highlight some of the lesser known winter ‘gems’ around the valley. The Yosemite Valley Floor Loop is great for families with younger children and/or families looking for an easier hike but can be customized to be more strenuous if desired. This is a private tour.

We had a blast hiking with Kara. She was very knowledgeable from history of the park to names of different locations. She made a seemingly straightforward tour into an interesting adventure, especially with some of the exclusive shortcuts she showed us. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get a full experience of Yosemite in a single day.

5. Historic Groveland Happy Hour Walking Tour

11892 Ponderosa Ln, Groveland, CA 95321, USA Echo Adventure Cooperative

The sleepy town of Groveland, CA located just outside Yosemite National Park was once (twice and even three times) a bustling metropolis of up to 20,000 people! Join us on a fun and historic guided walking tour that explores the town's booms and busts as well as the pioneers that shaped its legacy. We'll meet at the Echo Adventure's Yosemite Basecamp and enjoy presentation and light snack before getting started! During our half-mile walk through town, we'll duck into other local shops, hotels, and restaurants along the way to see how they have transformed Groveland's wild west era mercantiles, brothels, and saloons. We'll end our journey at the 170-year-old Groveland Hotel with a quick nip at their Bourbon Bar & Taproom before we explore their historic wine cellar! You may even get to meet Lyle, gold miner and hotel guest since 1925 - umm, yeah, he's a ghost! We'll say goodbye with plenty of time that evening to enjoy shopping, dining or live music in downtown Groveland!

I stayed in Echo’s Adventure Loft using it as a base camp while I went out each day to photograph Yosemite and the surrounding area. The loft was perfect, plenty of room, clean and I love the aesthetic. It’s within walking distance of food and drinks, not to mention right above Echo’s store. Elisabeth, Bryant and staff were so friendly and helpful. Helping me in the direction I needed to go for shooting each day.
