We are a working crop farm and environmental education center, with roots dating back to the 1600's. Today we act as a regional education hub offering programs on healthy and sustainable food production, skills for small-scale suburban and urban farmers, and sustainable living practices for local communities. The farm features demonstration models for backyard farming, animal management, rainwater harvesting, organic composting, and green-roof technology. Visitors are welcome to hike the farm's 3.5 miles of woodland trails, enjoy a picnic overlooking the property, and visit our chickens and goats. We hold numerous classes and lectures, offers seasonal CSA shares, and maintain a farm stand and U-Pick program during the growing season. We also offer guided tours, classes, and field trips for school groups, garden clubs, and scout troops. We are committed to donating 10% of annual vegetable production to local food pantries and warmly welcomes volunteers.
I've visited often: to pick up CSA produce, to purchase plants and produce from the stand, to use the space as part if a knitting group, and for educational program in the classroom. It's a working farm that has areas open to the public and hosts educational and cultural events. It's not a petting zoo r a community garden, so which spaces are open and which activities are available vary. Subscribe to the newsletter to see the monthly calendar and get advance notice of events.

Farm is only open to visitors by appointment. Please send us an email to schedule a visit. Faraway Farm is home to a herd of twenty beautiful alpacas and two Icelandic Horses. Our store offers homegrown yarn and a wide selection of alpaca garments, teddy bears, throws, and many one of a kind items. Just 40 miles north of New York City, the farm is often the location of choice for fashion magazines, wedding photographers, theater companies, television shows and independent photographers. The First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown was founded in 1730. The original church building served as an army store house during the Revolutionary War and was burned by British in 1779. The present church was erected in 1840.

The staff member that walked us into the field to choose our tree was a great sport. Although we were experiencing a storm and we were soaking wet he allowed us to take our time with choosing the best trees. Before leaving we purchased a few delicious treats from the Bakery....Apple cider donuts, oatmeal cookies and zucchini walnut Bread.
