Yogyakarta boasts stunning architecture and a truly spiritual sensibility. The ancient Hindu temples of Prambanan look like hand-drizzled sand castles, while the Sultan's palace is reminiscent of a gilded music box filled with jewels. Known for its arts and handicrafts, Yogyakarta is a cultural hub, a nerve center for traditional and modern puppetry.

Another additional stop on our itinerary. For 200 years this majestic mosque has provided the central focus for Muslims in the city. Our guide asked for us to be allowed in, a example of the gentle form of Islam practised on Java was that we were permitted to wonder in, provided with a sarong and shown how to do the ritual washing. It was serene. A privilege to go there.

You can join local saturday mass here at 4 pm using Javanese language at the open church. Feel very peaceful even though I can't understand the language. There's a temple next to the church and inside there's Jesus Christ statue. You can pray here and take holy water from 9 tap water beside the temple (candi). Bath room available here. Visitors can take a bath without using soap, shampoo and no towel needed to dry your body. The water is easy to evaporate and your clothes will not get wet. it's magic and people believe if you take a bath here, it will release your pain and you will be healed (physically and mentally). I do believe that :)

“Titik 0 Kilometer Yogyakarta” is not an ordinary crossing, most fun hanging out here above at 12 AM actually (for me who sometimes look for a quieter atmosphere), even though at 12 AM there is no guarantee this place is quiet. Why? “Titik 0 Kilometer Yogyakarta” can be said to be the “Yogyakarta’s pulse”. Besides its strategic location, it is located at the end of Jalan Malioboro, not far from the Palace of Yogyakarta, Vredeburg Fort, where many people hang out spending the night playing or listening to music, or just taking selfies. Surrounded by old buildings from the Dutch era (especially the 3 surrounding buildings, BNI Building, Bank Indonesia Building, and Indonesian Post Office Building), the wide surrounding sidewalks are made of beautiful marble stones with greening around them making spot in “Titik 0 Kilometer Yogyakarta” as one of the instragamable and ethnic spots in the city of Yogyakarta. In addition, “Titik 0 Kilometer Yogyakarta” is one of the witnesses of history, including a major battle for maintained Indonesia's independence, a battle known as the "Serangan Umum March 1, 1949" (general attack March 1, 1949).

If you are the first time to Yogya, this is recommended, surround by hotels, shops, batik shops, local foods, international foods, mc.donalds, starbucks etc to gudeg, soto, fried rice until hidden gems like delicious pork satay. Malioboro is the way to Kraton (Yogyakarta Palace) so this is important road and you may walk from train station to Kraton. Dont forget to visit the local traditional market and Hamzah Batik for one stop souvenir shoppings and cafe also cabaret show in Hamzah batik 3rd floor. Search Hamzah Batik/Raminten Cabaret review.

This is part of the same grounds where you find Tamansari Water Castle. It is a bit hard to find, but there are local people around who will gladly show you the way. It's very peaceful and unusual, in all my travels I've never been to a place that was so subdued and noble at the same time. Puts you in a very contemplative mood.

The old section of the town which contains an old mosque that holds the remains of the first sultan of Mataram.
Kotagede is a smaller town just next to Yogyakarta and you can go there in about 30 minutes by car or bus. This town is very unique as most of people are Moslem, but Chinese used to live in this town as you can see there are many beautiful and historic Chinese traditional homes blends with the Javanese traditional homes. There are many shops selling silver, but if you can walk behind the main street there are homes which produce those beautiful silver displayed at the shops in the main street. Of course, you can get cheaper price by buying the silver products direct from the makers.
