Sawa-I-Lau Caves

Reviewed By singhShivy - Viti Levu, Fiji

We had a visit to this cave as part of our 3 night cruise itinerary. The crew made us sign a waiver before entering the caves which made us even more afraid. It is a rocky way up the steps which are slippery and you have to be careful while making your way. On the way down down the steps you have to bend down and mind your head as the rock can hit your head. The cave has a combination of fresh and salt water and the water temperature is cold. Lucky for us our guides had prepared us mentally of what to expect in these caves and we were ready for it. The cave (as advised by the crew is very deep) and for a non swimmer like me I had to wear life jacket and had 3-5 noodles for my support. There is a place just before the entrance to the second cave where you can stand on the rocks or even sit down on the rocks and relax before you proceed any further. You have to take a underwater swim holding your breath for 5-10seconds (depending on tide) to reach to the second cave. The second cave is very dark and torch is required to show you the way. If you are claustrophobic then the second caves is definitely not a place for you and if you are not sure to enter the waters then there is place where you can stand and admire the caves without getting wet. If you are visiting Yasawas then you definitely need to visit this famous cave and see it with your own eyes.
